Venom Writer Teases the Epic Final Form of Symbiote Life

The epic finale of Donny Cates’ Venom run culminated in the King In Black event and redefined the character forever, and now Al Ewing, one of the writers behind the current run, is teasing the epic final form of all symbiote life. Eddie Brock took on the mantle of the King in Black and became the ruler of the symbiote hive mind. After his physical body is destroyed and he seemingly dies, Eddie Brock’s real story begins in a psychedelic sci-fi afterlife of sorts that will presumably answer the questions behind the symbiotes’ final form.

Venom Vol. 5, written by Al Ewing and Ram V with art by Bryan Hitch and Andrew Currie, follows Dylan Brock, the son of Eddie Brock, as he bonds with the Venom symbiote and becomes the Earthbound Lethal Protector while Eddie controls the symbiote hive throughout the cosmos. In the first issue, Eddie is killed in a fiery explosion, leaving nothing left of his physical form except a pile of charred bones. Eddie’s consciousness, however, is taken to a place called the Garden, which Eddie is told is located at the end of all that is. The being who tells him this is called Meridius, who greets Eddie upon his death in more ways than one by meeting him in the afterlife world of the Garden while also standing over his bones on Earth.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Al Ewing describes a fraction of the storytellers' plans for the main characters of Venom. He teases the plans Meridius has for them as well as what becomes of symbiotes at the end of their life cycle. “The biology of symbiotes is definitely going to be explored.” said Ewing in the interview with CBR, “As for their culture… Well, we’re going into the far future of symbiotes and seeing where they end up.” Based on Ewing’s statement, Eddie Brock, having become the leader of the hive mind, is seemingly going through the same life cycle as a symbiote and ends up in this afterlife Garden just as the alien creatures seemingly do. The nature of this mysterious place in the far future remains to be seen as teased by Al Ewing, who continued, “Is it a happy ending for the symbiote species? Or something a little more nightmarish? Take a walk around the Garden… And find out.”

The Garden is either a hellish world or a heavenly one, but either way it is supposedly the natural end of the line for symbiotes as described by Eddie Brock himself when he arrives. After he is blown to smithereens, Eddie describes his death as something that doesn’t feel like dying, but instead he is overwhelmed with the feeling of coming home. Eddie then emerges from a river of symbiotes in his new symbiote body, suggesting that the Garden is a place where symbiotes are one with nature, and perhaps make up the nature of this seemingly mystical place itself.

There is enough mystery behind the Garden, Meridius, and the version of Eddie Brock who now resides in the Garden to keep fans on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the answers. As of now, based on the interview with Ewing and the first issue of Venom itself, the Garden is seemingly the final form of all symbiotes located at the end of time where symbiotes are one with nature either metaphysically or literally, living in a version of an afterlife of their own creation. Fans will just have to stick with Eddie Brock throughout the next stage of his Venom story and discover for themselves the truth behind the symbiotes’ epic final form.
