Star Wars Hunters Gameplay Trailer Reveals Playable Jawas & Droid Jedi

The newest gameplay trailer for Star Wars Hunters shows off several of the upcoming title’s assortment of playable characters, including a pair of tech-savvy Jawas and even a lightsaber-wielding Droid Jedi. FarmVille developer Zynga first unveiled its Star Wars-themed battle royale game during the February 2021 Nintendo Direct livestream event, three years after it entered a contract with Star Wars parent company Disney to produce a free-to-play multiplayer title for mobile phones and the Nintendo Switch.

In Star Wars Hunters, players will be able to challenge each other as famous characters from the movies, taking part in intense arena battles across many iconic Star Wars locations including Tatooine, Hoth, and more. The game’s plot takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire (as shown in Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi), with the upcoming multiplayer game's focus on heroes already drawing comparisons to other competitive multiplayer titles like Overwatch. Both these games feature a wide assortment of colorful playable combatants, with Star Wars Hunters’ roster consisting of Mandalorian Bounty Hunters, ax-wielding Wookie warriors, and even two junk-trading Jawas stacked on top of each other.

The Star Wars Hunters “Enter The Arena” gameplay trailer was shared to the official Zynga Star Wars YouTube channel earlier today, November 6, and features all of these unique characters and more as they show off their specific attacks and fighting styles in real-time battles across the vast Star Wars universe. During the “Enter The Arena” trailer, viewers can see Jedi Droid J-3DI's lightsaber-wielding expertise, bounty hunter Imara Vex’s arsenal of blasters and wrist-mounted grappling hooks, and even the Jawa team Utooni’s salvaged ion blaster and laser turret. “Today’s gameplay reveal gives players their first look at the Hunters in action, showcasing eight of the dynamic characters which will be available at launch,” said, Zynga President of Publishing Bernard Kim stated in a press release. “Our teams at NaturalMotion and Boss Alien are excited for fans to enter the fray and compete for galaxy-wide glory in the Arena next year.” Additionally, players can pre-register to unlock special bonuses when Star Wars Hunters arrives in 2022 by logging onto the official Star Wars Hunters website.

Star Wars Hunters is far from the only new Star Wars game on the horizon, as earlier this year, Ubisoft announced that it is partnering with Disney to develop an open-world Star Wars title. Additionally, rumors claim Quantic Dream is also creating a Star Wars game, which is believed to be set in the era of the High Republic, hundreds of years before the events of the Star Wars films. Finally, longtime Star Wars PC port developer Aspyr Games announced a current-gen remake of the beloved Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic during September’s blockbuster PlayStation Showcase livestream.

With so many Star Wars games potentially on the way, it's not clear how well Star Wars Hunters may fare, with early responses from fans looking mixed. Some have praised the game for its graphics, while others have concern over the gameplay shown in the trailer. However, with a wide range of playable characters and fast-paced multiplayer action, the game is likely to be a hit with fans of the legendary Star Wars franchise. From Wookies to Bounty Hunters to even a pair of Jawas, players will have no shortage of quirky combatants to choose from when Star Wars Hunters launches sometime next year.
