Where Will Val Appear Next In The MCU (& Who Will She Recruit)?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 has been introducing new characters that will have a bigger role in future projects, but the most mysterious one to date is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), whose intentions are not clear yet and who will continue to appear in other movies and TV shows – but which one will be next? For over a decade, the MCU has been bringing different characters from Marvel Comics to the big screen, and with Phase 4 covering both TV shows and movies, this universe has now even more room to introduce more characters that can potentially change this universe.

Among those new characters who can give a twist to the MCU is La Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, also known as Madame Hydra, who made her debut in the TV series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Valentina has arrived at the MCU with a purpose that is still not totally clear, as she’s recruiting characters for a team that is speculated to be the Dark Avengers. However, as she has only appeared in the MCU two times so far and only has two characters on her side (for now), she’s set to return very soon, but the big questions are where and who she will recruit next.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s two appearances in the MCU have happened under very specific circumstances. Her debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier happened when John Walker (Wyatt Russell) was stripped of the mantle of Captain America following the brutal killing of a member of the Flag Smashers that was caught on camera, and she offered him a place with her and her people. By the end of the series, Valentina gave him a brand new suit and a new identity: US Agent. Valentina returned in the post-credits scene of Black Widow, where it was revealed she had already worked with Yelena (Florence Pugh) before, now assigning Clint Barton as her new target. Now, set photos from an undisclosed Marvel shoot show Julia Louis-Dreyfus reprising her role as Valentina, and this could be the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The sequel to Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther is currently filming in Atlanta, so Louis-Dreyfus’ presence on a Marvel set points at Val making an appearance in Black Panther 2, though she might return before that. It would make sense for Valentina to return in Hawkeye, even if just briefly as she has done so far, all due to her connection to Yelena, as she sent her after Clint by pointing him as the one responsible for Natasha Romanoff’s death. On the other hand, Valentina’s appearance in Black Panther 2 is a bit tricky, as it’s unclear who could fit her vision for the mysterious team she’s building. Valentina could be setting her eyes on Shuri (Letitia Wright), T’Challa’s sister and the one in charge of designing new technology for Wakanda, and who could be of use for Valentina’s secret plans, though whether Shuri would agree to join her or not is another story. Another character that could be of interest to Valentina is Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), who will make her MCU debut in Black Panther 2, or she could also target whoever is the villain in this new adventure, who is widely believed to be Namor.

With Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s plans still a mystery, it’s tricky to predict what her next move and appearance will be, as it’s unclear what she’s looking for in her recruits and for what purpose. What’s for sure, however, is that even though her appearances in the MCU have been very brief and might continue to be so, her presence will be strong and have a major impact in the near future of this universe, especially as she already has some strong characters on her side.
