Greg Gippo, former cast member on The Bachelorette, is reacting to his former costar and ex Katie Thurston's recent split with Blake Moynes. Greg was a front-runner on Katie's season, but ultimately things did not work out. Blake and Katie's romance began in The Bachelorette season 17 when Blake appeared mid-season. The two were engaged by the end of the season, and announced their breakup shortly after.
Although Greg and Katie never got engaged, they did have some drama during their time together on the show. The two made a strong connection at first, but things went downhill during their "Hometowns" episode. Greg self-eliminated and broke up with Katie after he had confessed his feelings to her and felt she had not reacted the way he had hoped. Blake proposed to Katie shortly after. The two seemed happy at first, but many fans speculated that the relationship might end in failure when they weren't interacting with each other on social media as much as they had previously.
Greg tells Us Weekly that he sends his regards to Katie, saying "I mean, honestly, my heart goes out to her for whatever happened." Despite some rumors that Greg and Katie may not be over each other, Greg states that he hasn't kept in touch with his Bachelorette ex but sympathizes with her situation, saying "We haven’t spoken, honestly. I just wish the best for her. I know it’s probably pretty difficult what happened." Although things between them went sour on their season, Greg doesn't seem to hold negativity towards Katie. Greg also has no negative comments towards Blake, saying “I really like Blake honestly. Blake’s awesome, Blake’s awesome. He’s a really great guy.”
As for what could have been the cause of Blake and Katie's recent split, Andrew Spencer believes the relationship was likely to have been impacted by the distance between them. “I think the distance definitely was very prominent, and we knew that,” says Andrew. He sights his own past relationships, saying that he believes long-distance relationships don't usually work out. He notes that upon finding out that Blake would be going to Africa, he worried about the relationship's ability to withstand the distance, saying "Hmm, could be a little shaky,’ but you never know with those things. But I didn’t see it going very long for sure." Andrew says he's spoken with Katie but that conversation between the two has remained "healthy and cordial." Andrew explains that he reached out to Katie to offer support "and just [make] sure she knows that there’s still, you know, good people out there who care and want to see her do well.” Andrew adds that he wishes Katie and Blake the best as they move forward with their lives.
When Greg threw a memorable series curveball and eliminated himself from The Bachelorette, it spelled trouble for Katie's love life that season. Although she was able to make a connection with Blake following the tearful turn of events, things between the two were not perfect even from the start. After he proposed, they both seem to have given it their best, but ultimately it doesn't seem like it was meant to be. It seems like a good thing that Katie has friends like Andrew to lean on in a difficult time. While some fans may believe Katie isn't yet over Greg, it seems unlikely that the two will ever pair up again given that they haven't spoken at all. Additionally, the on-screen breakup might have been the first and final nail in the coffin given how upset she was at the time.
