Love Island: Shannon's Ex Dave Portnoy Accused of Violent Sexual Behavior

Trigger warning! This article contains accusations related to alleged sexual abuse.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who dated Shannon St Clair before her time on Love Island USA season 3, has now been accused of engaging in multiple violent sexual encounters with various women. Reality TV fans met Shannon during the premiere episode of Love Island USA season 3. She coupled up with Josh Goldstein on that first day, and the couple proved that they were the real deal by overcoming all the obstacles that came their way. Unfortunately, Josh found out that his sister passed away while filming, which prompted him and Shannon to quit the show.

Since creating Barstool Sports as a print publication in 2003, Dave Portnoy grew the company into a digital media empire that has a current valuation of nearly $500 million. In 2010, the company was accused of "normalizing rape and sexual assault" (via HuffPo), among other controversies over the years. On a personal level, Dave has also faced a few controversies, such as an allegation in 2019 that he "threatened to fire any employees who attempted to contact a union supporter" (via The Verge).

In February 2021, just five months before Love Island USA season 3 started on CBS, Shannon St Clair was identified as Dave Portnoy's new girlfriend (via Page Six). As pictured in the screenshot below, Dave was spotted with Shannon in an Instagram Story. It is assumed that they broke up sometime between that report and Shannon's casting on Love Island. As of November 2021, Business Insider is reporting that multiple women have accused Dave of engaging in "sexually explicit online exchanges" with them and putting them through "frightening and humiliating experiences." Some of the women who have come forth are reportedly as young as 19 years of age. One woman claimed that she was "both ch*ked and filmed without advance permission."

As of this writing, Love Island USA star Shannon has not commented on these claims regarding her ex. On the other hand, Dave Portnoy promptly took to social media to deny these allegations, calling the Business Insider story "a hit piece that's been eight months in the making." Since that original report was published, shares of Penn National Gaming (which owns part of Barstool Sports) fell more than 20%, as reported by Variety. For his part, Dave claims that he's "never done anything weird with a girl, ever, never anything remotely non-consensual." You can watch Dave's full video statement in the tweets included below.

Only time will tell if Shannon St Clair will address this situation with the Love Island USA fans. It is likely that she'll stay out of it, but there's a chance that she might address what her experiences with him were when they dated. Nonetheless, fans will stay tuned for the next developments in this ongoing story.
