Animal Crossing: New Horizons just received a massive amount of new content as part of its 2.0 update, including cooking, farming, boat tours, a shopping plaza, and the long-awaited café. On top of all of that, there is a new roster of Animal Crossing villagers that players can meet and, if they’re lucky, recruit to live on their island.
The 2.0 update introduced 16 new villagers to the game as well as a few beloved NPCs. Some players are making space on their islands in hopes that these new villagers will become island residents, but recruiting villagers can be tricky as they appear randomly unless the player recruits them with an Amiibo card.
There were eight brand new villagers introduced to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Nintendo also brought back another eight from previous games that were not in the initial villager lineup at the game’s release. With these 16 villagers joining the New Horizons lineup, players can now recruit them to their own islands.
1 How To Get The New Villagers In Animal Crossing 2.0
New Villagers
- Sasha: Lazy Rabbit
- Ione: Normal Squirrel
- Tiansheng: Jock Monkey
- Shino: Peppy Deer
- Marlo: Cranky Hamster
- Petri: Snooty Mouse
- Cephalobot: Smug (robot) Octopus
- Quinn: Sisterly Eagle
Returning Villagers
- Chabwick: Lazy Penguin
- Zoe: Normal Anteater
- Ace: Jock Bird
- Rio: Peppy Ostritch
- Frett: Cranky Dog
- Azalea: Snooty Rhino
- Roswell: Lazy Aligator
- Faith: Normal Koala
All of the new villagers were added to Series 5 of the Animal Crossing Amiibo cards, along with the new NPCs that joined the game in the 2.0 update. Amiibo cards are the most sure-fire way to get a specific new villager to move to the island, though they are an extra expense. There are 48 Amiibo cards in Series 5, however, so players will need to be lucky enough to pull one from a pack. Players can use Amiibo cards to invite villagers to their campsite and try to convince them to move in. Getting an Amiibo villager to move in, takes three days’ work as they will ask players to craft them an item each day before the player can invite them to move to the island.
Villagers can also be found at random on Island Tours if the player has space on their Animal Crossing island for another villager to move in. If the player’s island already has 10 villagers, they will no longer appear on island tours. With more than 400 villagers now in Animal Crossing, this method will take a bit of luck, patience, and plenty of Nook Miles.
New villagers also have a chance of visiting a player’s campsite at random, and players can get them to move to the island if they’re lucky enough to win a guessing card game. However, if they guess incorrectly, they’ll miss their chance of getting the new villager and will have to wait until they get lucky again.
Players also have the option of trading Animal Crossing villagers if someone else gets one of the new villagers, but doesn’t want them as a permanent resident. By visiting a villager on another island that is in the process of moving out, players can recruit them to their own island, but only if they have an empty plot of land already.
