Christian Sesma's new action-thriller Every Last One of Them brings a minor war right out of a Rambo movie to its story of a man on a rescue mission, with Taryn Manning on board as one of many enemies he encounters along the way. Paul Sloan plays Jake Hunter, an ex-Special Ops soldier searching for his missing daughter. However, his quest ends up putting him in the crosshairs of the local criminal underbelly.
Taryn Manning portrays Maggie, who runs a security firm with her brother Nichols (Jake Weber). Hunter's mission uncovers a local criminal plot that makes him an enemy of every gangster and underworld enforcer in town, with Maggie and Nichols also taking aim at him.
We spoke to Taryn Manning on the making of Every Last One of Them, the challenges of filming during the pandemic, and some of the most memorable elements of the film's story for her.
Screen Rant: How did you come aboard Every Last One of Them?
Taryn Manning: I was shown the script and felt that it was a really cool character. I liked that it was a little different from roles I had done in the past.
What was it like having to navigate the pandemic during the making of the film and the challenges that came with that?
Taryn Manning: The protocols are definitely strict. Every time you get to set you had to test one or two times, and sometimes even before you go to set. You have to put on your mask in between every take, and you're getting your temperature taken throughout the day. Everyone has to sort of mind their P's and Q's, and it's very different but necessary.
What stood out to you about the making of Every Last One of Them apart from making it during the pandemic?
Taryn Manning: I just loved everyone's morale and high spirits. It was one of those movies where it was just a few locations. It was really cool to work with Richard Dreyfuss, and Jake Weber and Christian [Sesma] are amazing. Someone fell out and I think Jake got the role only two nights before. Christian's DP [Anthony J. Rickert-Epstein] is also a one-man show, he can light and shoot, he's the real deal.
What felt different about the role of Maggie compared to other projects you've been a part of?
Taryn Manning: She's sort of like a twisted Susie Homemaker who just wants a peaceful life for her older brother, but she'll also do anything to protect him and the family. She's very noble, and typically, I play a lot of down-and-out characters, and it was nice to play someone who was the boss of something. My brother and I are in it for the same reasons and we're on the same team, and we're after the same goal, so it was something different and nice.
What was the most memorable day or experience from the making of Every Last One of Them for you?
Taryn Manning: One day that was pretty cool was when we had a helicopter on set, and I'd never really experienced a helicopter doing stunt helicopter work. They were flying really close to us, and I've done a lot of stuff with cars and crashes, but I'd never worked with a helicopter in that capacity, so that was really cool.
Also, just the way we used the property was awesome, and it just felt like being in another country.
Looking back at how you joined the film, what drew you to Every Last One of Them when you first read the script?
Taryn Manning: My character's the backbone of Jake's security firm, and they help control a lot of the crooked government dealings. Paul Sloan's character is searching for his daughter and jeopardizes this big water deal that they've been protecting, so there's a lot of secrets and side deals, so you don't really know who the bad guy is, and I loved that element of it. I feel like there's a lot of heart to it, and I really related to a father and his daughter having a close bond. Christian's also an incredible director, he's a great actor's director as well as a visionary.
What other projects do you have coming up right now?
Taryn Manning: I have a movie called Sanctioning Evil coming out. I play an FBI agent, and it's another twisted story of a soldier coming back from the Iraq War, and another different kind of role than I've gotten to play.
Every Last One 0f Them is now in theaters and on VOD platforms.
