Pokémon Cubone Masks Turn Guinea Pigs Into the Lonely Ground-Type

A company is selling adorable 3D printed Pokémon-themed masks that transform pets into Cubone. As one of the original 150 Pokémon that took the world by storm in the late 90s, the Ground-type Cubone is fairly popular and recognized for its distinct skull-like mask and bone weapon that it shares with its later evolved form, Marowak.

There is also a surprising amount of lore and fan theories surrounding Cubone's origins, most of which are rather dark and depressing for the traditionally lighthearted Pokémon franchise. Official Pokémon canon states that Cubone’s mask is actually the skull of its dead mother, making things pretty sad for the little Ground-type creature right off the bat. In the original Pokemon Red And Blue and its various remakes, Lavender Town’s Pokémon Tower is haunted by the spirits of Cubone that were killed by the villainous Team Rocket, with players needing to defeat the ghost of their vengeful Marowak mother to bring peace to their troubled souls. Meanwhile, fans have speculated that Cubone is actually the orphaned offspring of Kangaskhan, a fellow Ground-type that is known for carrying its baby in a pouch like a real-life kangaroo.

Now Pokémon fans can turn their own pets into Cubone, thanks to the work of Singapore-based 3D printing company Dream3DPrinting. The company is currently selling an unofficial Cubone mask for pets on Esty, and it offers up a variety of sizes for dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and even small reptiles. Twitter users like MatAuryn have been sharing pictures of these adorable masks on social media, praising Dream3DPrinting for its work in bringing Cubone’s distinct skull mask to life in time for Halloween.

All year long, Nintendo has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise with new game announcements, promotional deals with companies like Oreo and McDonalds, and even a musical collaboration with stars like Katy Perry and Post Malone in the form of Pokémon 25: The Album. In return, fans have been reminiscing about their own first Pokémon experiences, with heartfelt Pokémon anniversary videos chronicling just how much Nintendo’s long-running, monster-collecting JRPG series has meant to fans over the past two and a half decades.

With this in mind, Dream3DPrinting’s Cubone masks are a cute way for Pokémon fans to celebrate Halloween with their pets. After all, Cubone is a natural fit for the spooky fall season, given its skull-faced design and numerous backstories and fan theories involving ghosts, death, and other scary elements. Thankfully, Dream3DPrinting’s Cubone masks aren’t made from the skull of a guinea pig's dead mother.
