Michael Gandolfini joins the cast of the Godfather making-of TV series The Offer. The Paramount Plus show also stars Miles Teller, Giovanni Ribisi, Matthew Goode, Colin Hanks, Dan Fogler and Juno Temple. The 10-episode series details the drama behind-the-scenes of the making of the iconic Oscar-winning 1972 gangster epic The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Variety reports that Gandolfini has now joined the already-impressive cast of The Offer in the role of Andy Calhoun, a business man trying to buy Godfather studio Paramount. He's joined by newly announced co-star Zack Schor who plays Fred Gallo, the Godfather assistant director.
Gandolfini of course just broke-out playing the young Tony Soprano in the Sopranos prequel movie The Many Saints of Newark, following in the footsteps of his father James Gandolfini, who played Tony in the original HBO TV series. The rising star is also set to appear in the Russo Brothers thriller The Grey Man, the Ari Aster mystery project Disappointment Blvd. and the thriller Cat Person. Schor meanwhile is best known for the Amazon series Hunters. For Gandolfini, the gangster connection remains strong, as he goes from playing the young version of a fictional mobster to playing a real life man who becomes involved in the behind-the-scenes story of the movie that changed gangster films forever. The Offer is of course not the only Godfather-related project in the works, as Barry Levinson is also developing a Godfather making-of movie starring Oscar Isaac, Jake Gyllenhaal and Elisabeth Moss. It remains to be seen if both of these dueling Godfather projects can actually make it to the finish line and if audiences will be able to refuse what they have to offer.
