Juggernaut's Darkest Victory Was Over the One Hero He Respects

Cain Marko's Juggernaut has been in many deadly battles, as the X-Men adversary isn't afraid to get his hands dirty to accomplish his missions. However, after once battling Dazzler, the Juggernaut believed he accidentally killed the hero in his darkest victory ever. The powerful supervillain even admitted that he worshipped the pop star and buried her alive, believing she was dead. But, it turns out Juggernaut's greatest mistake didn't happen as he thought it did.

Dazzler (Alison Blaire) is a mutant with the power to convert sound into light beams, meaning she can put on quite the show with her abilities. Marvel Comics created the hero to develop a real-life popstar within the pages of the comics. The original idea for Dazzler was to release real music from the disco-loving character, but those plans fizzled out before they happened. Nevertheless, despite being created as a gimmick, Dazzler has remained a semi-important member of the X-Men, appearing in numerous story arcs since her creation. Dazzler even made her live-action debut in Dark Phoenix, where Halston Sage played her.

In Uncanny X-Men #217 by Chris Claremont, Jackson Guice, Steve Leialoha, Glynis Oliver, Petra Scoetese, and Tom Orzechowski, Dazzler notices Cain Marko as some of the X-Men are training on Muir Island. After following the villain, she's attacked by Juggernaut. After recognizing who she is, Marko tells Dazzler that he's a massive fan of her music and even offers to help fix her bike he broke. However, after Dazzler attempts to use her powers to calm Juggernaut down, he gets angry and attacks again. The two continue the fight, but Dazzler exudes too much of her energy, collapsing to the ground. Juggernaut screams out in horror as he admits he worshipped Dazzler and believes he's "killed her."

Ultimately, Juggernaut buries Dazzler (not realizing she's alive) believing he's killed one of the few heroes he truly admires. It's his darkest victory, as he "worshipped" Dazzler and thinks he's solely responsible for her death. However, the fact he buried her shows how much he respected her and how big of a mistake he thought he had made.

Thankfully, Dazzler would soon wake up and was freed from her coffin with the help of Psylocke. In the end, she would help the X-Men on Muir Island defeat Juggernaut. But, not before the supervillain believed he made one of the biggest mistakes of his life by killing Dazzler. Who knew one of Marvel's strongest heroes has such a soft spot for pop music?
