Splitgate Brags It Will Have Forge Before Halo Infinite Does

The developer of multiplayer shooter Splitgate has teased that the game will be getting Forge before Halo Infinite does. The next addition to the Halo series from developer 343 Industries has already confirmed it won't be launching with the classic mode when it lands on Xbox consoles and PC later this year, something which has left many Halo fans upset.

Halo's Forge was introduced to the series as part of Halo 3, which released back in 2007. The mode allows players to create and edit their own custom maps to be used in multiplayer matches, and the creative mode has enabled fans to bring their wildest ideas to life. Halo Infinite has been created with PC and the new-generation Xbox Series X in mind, and many were looking forward to creating their own Forge maps using the power of the latest technology. While Forge won't be available when the game releases, the game mode and campaign co-op will be added to Halo Infinite post-launch.

Free-to-play shooter Splitgate has stated that the game will be getting Forge - or at least something similar - ahead of Halo Infinite. When prompted to "trigger an entire gaming fanbase with one sentence," Splitgate responded with:

"Splitgate will have forge mode before Halo Infinite (Sorry in advance Halo fans, we love you but we had to)."

In a follow-up tweet, Splitgate added: "We probably won't call it forge mode, but it's a map editor. Imagine placing portal pads anywhere you wanted on Olympus!" The game has already drawn comparisons to Halo due to its classic gameplay, and the addition of a map editor will likely appeal to the title's playerbase.

While the initial tweet may seem like a joke response, the follow-up comment suggests a map editor could already be in development. 1047 Games has made no secret of its plans to expand, and a Forge-like map editor would be right at home within the shooter. Splitgate recently secured $100m in funding, which will be used to develop and improve the game, while also adding new creative talent to the team at 1047 Games. Splitgate has seen a meteoric rise in popularity since its console release earlier this summer, with the game's servers having to be increased to keep up with player demand, and this seems to be just the beginning.

The company hasn't revealed what its immediate future plans are, but has just launched the first season of content for Splitgate, named Season 0, which has added a new battle pass, map, and new game modes. More seasonal content is planned for Splitgate in the future which will likely be the studio's priority, so fans may not see a Forge-like mode for some time. 1047 Games has previously stated that the company's wider vision includes bringing Splitgate to Nintendo Switch and mobile. With more platforms planned, and a new custom map creator seemingly on the way, Splitgate's future is looking bright.
