Erika Jayne from The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills fires back at conspiracy theorists regarding her legal drama. Since her husband, Tom Girardi, was accused of embezzling money from crash victims, Erika’s name has been dragged through the mud alongside him, both in the media and in a $25 million lawsuit. Over the last year, the issue has turned into a public spectacle, with commentators in every corner.
Many on social media are ready to deliver Erika to the firing squad, though she hasn’t been convicted of a crime. Some are calling for Bravo to cut her from the franchise, which would be an unprecedented measure, considering that no other housewife has been fired over a lawsuit (even Teresa Giudice, who served prison time after pleading guilty to 41 counts of fraud, was asked back onto the show to film a Christmas episode). The Internet, however, is foaming at the mouth about Erika's supposed guilt.
After a recent episode, Erika took to Twitter in a passionate plea. She addressed the “dumb *******” who offer “conspiracy theories” about her legal affairs. In another tweet that evening, Erika explained that she won’t back down. “God forbid I fight for myself. Stop thinking I’ll quit just because you think I should.” She also offered her gratitude, adding, “Thank you to everyone that is supportive and understanding.”
Many RHOBH fans believe Erika knew nothing of her husband's alleged activity and recall the strangely distant relationship she shared with Tom (who is 32 years her senior). The pop star's attorney, Evan Borges, says the lawsuit against her doesn’t make sense from a legal perspective. He thinks the plaintiffs are putting blame on Erika without acknowledging the facts. In his opinion, the suit against Erika has reached bully-level behavior. Most of the castmates on RHOBH are also standing by Erika's side. Kyle Richards stated publicly that she believes Erika is an honest person. Lisa Rinna said it wouldn't make sense for Tom to tell Erika about his alleged crimes, especially when he kept his own law firm in the dark.
But on The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, the court of public opinion is king, and a few of Erika's castmates have been less supportive than Kyle and Lisa. One thing is certain: Erika will be fighting an uphill battle. Most anyone can file a lawsuit in the United States, regardless of the evidence. But when an A-list celebrity like Erika is tied to the suit, the plaintiffs can ignite a bomb of media attention. Hopefully, the real victims can push through the rubble and find answers beneath the sensationalism.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills airs Wednesdays at 8pm on Bravo.
