Pokémon Sword and Shield players can sign up to a receive free code that will let them claim Dada Zarude and Shiny Celebi in-game. This is part of a promotion for the upcoming Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which is set to hit Netflix on October 8.
Celebi is the second Mythical Pokémon (which differ from Legendaries) in the history of the series, with Mew being the first. Technically, though, it lost this status in the Virtual Console version of Pokémon Crystal, as the player was given the GS Ball once they beat the Elite Four, allowing them to encounter a Celebi without needing to attend an external event or download it. Zarude is the only Mythical Pokémon in Gen VIII, and it has been given away to Pokémon Sword and Shield players in the past. Dada Zarude is an alternate form that is based on the Zarude from Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, with the main difference being that it's sporting a pink cape.
The Pokémon Company will soon be offering a free download code for Shiny Celebi and Dada Zarude in Pokémon Sword and Shield. According to the official Pokémon website, players only need to sign up for the official Pokémon Trainer Club newsletter to receive a code. They have until September 25. Once this has been done, their codes will be sent to the email that they used to sign up for the newsletter, which can be claimed via Pokémon Sword and Shield's Mystery Gift menu. The Pokémon Company says codes will be distributed on October 7.
The Dada Zarude begin given away is a level 70 Dark/Grass-type Pokémon. It comes holding a Choice Scarf, has Leaf Guard as its ability, and knows the unique Zarude move Jungle Healing, Hammer Arm, Power Whip, and Energy Ball. Meanwhile, Shiny Celebi is a level 60 Psychic/Grass-type Pokémon. It comes holding a Lucky Egg, has Natural Cure as its ability, and knows Magical Leaf, Future Sight, Life Dew, and Heal Bell.
It seems that international fans will also be able to sign up for the Pokémon Trainer Club this time around. The last time Zarude was distributed, players in certain countries had to contact local retailers. The last Zarude code distribution faced logistical issues, with many would-be recipients not receiving their codes and having to follow up individually with Pokémon customer support staff for assistance. Hopefully, The Pokémon Company has its Psyducks in a row for its latest giveaway. Players will be receiving their Mythical Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield just in time for the premiere of Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle if so.
