Next Bond Actor Betting Odds Place Tom Hardy At Top Of List

Tom Hardy has once again topped bookmakers' list for the actor most likely to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond following No Time to Die. Craig has played the iconic role of 007 for five films since his debut in 2006's Casino Royale, which saw the series take a somewhat grittier take on the character than had previously been depicted. Craig is the sixth actor to portray Bond since the series began all the way back in 1962, when Sean Connery played the role in Dr. No

Craig was initially set to relinquish the role of Bond after 2015's Spectrehowever after some time away he decided to return for No Time to Die as the film is set to wrap up plot threads that have been seeded since Casino Royale. As with any Bond film, No Time to Die has been highly anticipated, however the initial release date of November 2019 was postponed to February 2020, at which point the film was delayed several time as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is finally set to release in the UK on September 30th, with it's US release coming a week later on October 8th.

With the news that Craig would be relinquishing the role of Bond, speculation has been naturally rife about who would be the actor to replace him. Per CinemaBlend, by way of betting aggregator US-Bookies, Tom Hardy is once again the favourite to take the role. He has been one of the names most in discussion to play the role, and has now deposed Bridgerton star RegĂ©-Jean Page, who had been sitting in the top-spot for the past month. Hardy's odds are currently 9/4 of being the next Bond, while Page has slipped to 16/5.

There is no clear reason why Page has slipped, but perhaps his recent attachment to star in Paramount's reboot of 1996's The Saint could be a cause. Page's chances of becoming the next Bond had risen exponentially after it was revealed that he wouldn't be returning for Bridgerton season 2Other names tipped for the role of Bond include The Witcher's Henry Cavill, EternalsRichard Madden, McMafia's James Norton, and The Suicide Squad's Idris Elba - an actor who has been associated the role for almost as long as Hardy has.

One of the most interesting names on the list is Lashana Lynch, who currently shares odds of 9/1 alongside Elba. Lynch will appear in No Time to Die as Nomi, a new 00 agent who has been designated 007 after Bond's apparent retirement at the end of Spectre. It has been theorized that the upcoming film could see the torch passed to her for future installments. This remains to be seen however, especially now that Hardy has become the new favorite to take the role.

Of course, it's well worth noting that these bookmaker rankings have no genuine impact of who the next Bond will be or have any real correlation with the role. Rather they represent a visual of where the betting market is maneuvering itself at the current time, but it's still interesting to see what people are speculating. Whoever does replace Craig likely won't be revealed until well after No Time to Die is released, but until then viewers will have the actor's final outing as 007 to look forward to.
