Law & Order: SVU & Organized Crime Releases First Look At New Seasons

NBC has released a first-look trailer that takes viewers into the world of Law & Order Thursdays, featuring Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized CrimeSVU is the first spin-off of the hit NBC show Law & Order, which premiered in 1999 and is now entering its 23rd season on September 23. Premiering the same day is the second season of Law & Order: Organized Crime, an SVU spin-off with a single-arc storyline that is the seventh overall Law & Order spin-off. Organized Crime premiered this spring with a reduced 8-episode season, though season 2 has been expanded to a regular 24 episodes.

Organized Crime saw the return of Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), an important SVU character who hasn't been on Law & Order since season 12. He and Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson (who has been on the show through thick and thin from the very beginning) were longtime partners, and fans have wanted them to get together for over a decade. Stabler's triumphant return to the Law & Order universe saw him being hot and cold with Benson, culminating in him giving her a letter in the season 1 finale.

A new first-look behind-the-scenes video was released on the official Twitter page for Law & Order Thursday, showing what fans can expect in the coming seasons, which will run one after another on Thursdays. There are plenty of heated looks between Benson and Stabler that can either be read as romance or animosity, so details of the contents of Stabler's letter are still murky, though Christopher Meloni has previously said it's going to cause "a riot." Organized Crime will follow Stabler infiltrating an Albanian gang, and at least one of the plots shows Benson taking down a predatory congressman. Law & Order: Organized Crime also stars Dylan McDermott, Tamara Taylor, Danielle Moné Truitt, and Ainsley Seiger. This season will be adding Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) as Congressman Leon Kilbride, Guillermo Díaz (Scandal) as Sergeant Bill Brewster, and Vinnie Jones (X-Men: The Last Stand) as Albi Briscu, the leader of the Albanian mob. Law & Oder: SVU also stars Kelli Giddish, Ice-T, Peter Scanavino, and Octavio Pisano. Jamie Gray Hyder and Demore Barnes are set to exit the show in the season premiere.

Fans of the Law & Order empire have a lot to look forward to this coming season. This year Benson and Stabler have finally reunited after ten years, and now that the shows have finished setting the stage with Organized Crime's reduced season, they can open up and explore that storyline in a much fuller and richer way. Although their romance is unlikely to be as easy as Christopher Meloni's recent steamy Twitter photo teased, it's a stronger possibility than it has ever been before.
