Guardians of the Galaxy Goes Gold, Celebrates With Dancing Cosmo the Dog

To celebrate the news that Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has gone gold, developer Eidos Montréal shared a gif of Cosmo the Spacedog dancing alongside Star-Lord. The spacefaring, astronaut suit-wearing canine appears in a few of the title's promotional trailers and screenshots, though what role he'll play in the grand scheme of things remains under wraps.

Cosmo first appeared in the late 2000s as part of Dan Abnett's and Andy Lanning's Nova run. The dog's comic book origins depicted him as one of the Soviet space program's test animals who, after getting launched into outer space, obtained telepathic powers due to cosmic radiation. An ability to freely converse with humans and other humanoids makes Cosmo all the more fascinating. And said fascination led to the spacedog appearing in cameos for both Guardians of the Galaxy films and the What If...? series on Disney+. He'll fill out the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy cast in the coming weeks, too.

Eidos MontrĂ©al took to the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Twitter page to announce the titles has officially gone gold. Essentially, the interactive GOTG adventure is now feature-complete and ready for manufacturing. The studio's celebratory post was accompanied by a perfectly fitting gif of Star-Lord dancing alongside Cosmo the Spacedog. (Peter will have someone to join him in grooving to the game's '80s music-filled soundtrack.) See Cosmo and Star-Lord tear up the dance floor in the tweet linked below:

Going gold means little nowadays in terms of content completion overall. Guardians of the Galaxy could very well launch with a sizable day one patch, for example. However, this news does suggest that, at the very least, Eidos MontrĂ©al and publisher Square Enix will adhere to GOTG's late October due date.

Square Enix kicked off its E3 2021 presentation with a lengthy look at Guardians of the Galaxy's gameplay reveal. Before the segment concluded, the publisher confirmed the surprising news of an imminent release for the licensed title. GOTG will allow players to assume the role of Star-Lord, the Guardians' self-proclaimed leader, who comes equipped with his own combat abilities and can control those of his teammates in a manner reminiscent of Mass Effect.
