Corey Rathgeber and Evelin Villegas from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way have finally disclosed that they were married in 2019, and here’s everything to know about their not-so-secret wedding. Mill A, Washington resident Corey, 34, and Evelin, 28, from Engabao, Ecuador, are a returning couple from the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off’s season 1. TLC viewers never took a liking to Corey and Evelin amidst a storyline plagued by cheating rumors and money matters. But then sources claimed that Evelin and Corey were already married before the show started and were presenting a fake storyline. However, Corey and Evelin have now revealed details of their nuptials, including photos and why and how they did it.
Rumors about Corey and Evelin circulated pre-COVID 19 when sources on the internet claimed they had been married for several years and were fooling fans. One rumor also spoke about Evelin being banned from entering the US after not having adhered to the temporary visa guidelines. Evelin was accused of overstaying her visa when she stayed with Corey’s Mormon family in Washington and that she was illegally working in America. Plus, 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way cast member Laura Jallali, who had moved to Ecuador and crashed with Corey and Evelin, said they were married “the entire time” and made the American man’s DUI arrest details public.
Since the DUI documents apparently showed Corey’s status as married, it was believed that he and Evelin had been taking 90 Day Fiancé fans for a ride. Thus, their storyline was also called out for not being 100% factual, and fans felt cheated by Corey and Evelin. But the couple has finally come clean about the real date of their wedding, to indicate that they hid things out of necessity.
During 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way episode 4, Evelin’s sisters Lipsy and Lesly confessed how they were betrayed by Evelin, just like the fans were because she lied to them for a whole year about the wedding. Corey’s visa was expiring, and he would have had to go back to the States, and since he and Evelin were “in a good place,” they got married. According to Corey’s latest Instagram post, he and Evelin married on June 11, 2019, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was a last-minute decision, and Evelin cried after the wedding, and they later decided to “divorce quietly” in case things went South.
Moreover, Corey and Evelin didn’t tell a soul about their marriage as she never wanted her family to find out. As per Evelin, no one in her family has gotten divorced before, and given their relationship’s track record, she may have feared the worst. The production team of 90 Day Fiancé was also left unaware as the ceremony took place after they’d filmed for season 1. Corey and Evelin were not in talks to start filming again.
Corey also called out Laura without naming her and added that “She twisted our story into her own version and attempted to make us look like frauds.” Corey believes that she was desperately trying to make them look like liars when, in reality, Aladin Jallali’s ex-wife only wanted to hurt them. Corey says it was very wrong and disappointing.
When Corey and Evelin had arrived in Guayaquil at their wedding venue, they realized that they had no witnesses. At least two witnesses were required for Corey and Evelin to be legally married. This is when they went out on the street and found two complete strangers and paid a couple $20 and got help. Within a few hours, Corey and Evelin were husband and wife. It's on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 3 that fans will see if this marriage lasts and if Evelin gets her expensive $50,000 second wedding amid the whole Jenny fiasco. But Corey and Evelin look like they’re still together and have finally gotten this shocking secret off their chest.
