6 Times a Big Brother Contestant Quit The Show | ScreenRant

The Big Brother house can be a difficult place for contestants to live. Things can get heated between contestants and all of the lying and two-faced scheming that comes with playing the Big Brother game, can be enough for contestants to call it quits.

Between sharing a house with the same people for an extended amount of time, having no contact with the outside world, competing, having to eat 'slop,' and sleeping in the 'have not' room, really puts players to the true test. Ultimately, this can lead to a few contestants making the personal decision to leave the house voluntarily instead of getting evicted.

6 Dick Donato (Season 13)

Big Brother legend and one of the most chaotic Big Brother players ever, Dick Donato had been a fan favorite in season 8 for calling players out and starting fights with his fellow houseguests, which created a lot of drama in the house. He eventually went on to take home the win in season 8, making it to the final two with his daughter, Daniele Donato, who he had an estranged relationship with before entering the house.

Donato eventually returned in season 13 with his daughter to participate in the season of the duo twist, where they planned to play the game together. However, unlike the first time around, the two of them didn't make it very far together because Dick left in week one. Big Brother fans didn't initially know why he left so abruptly, but Dick later disclosed that he found out he was living with HIV and was receiving treatment.

5 Neil Garcia (Season 9)

Neil Garcia left early on in season 9 and was the first person in Big Brother U.S. history to walk away from the game. He was called to the diary room and was given some news by producers. Shortly after, he made the decision to leave the game due to an unspecified personal issue.

Although Nick's time in the house was cut short and viewers didn't get to see much of him, it was sad to see him go not only because of his bubbly and sweet personality but because he had built a strong connection and relationship with houseguest Joshuah Welch. Unfortunately, because season 9 was a couples game and producers matched houseguests up based on compatibility, Joshuah was forced to pick a new partner.

4 Megan Lowder (Season 19)

In season 19, Megan Lowder decided to leave the Big Brother house after her time there began to affect her mental health. She had a lot of anxiety after she was put up on the block and was then involved in a fight with other houseguests, which is when she decided that she wanted to leave the game.

Viewers and houseguests felt for Megan as she was going through this because she was sweet and not much of a threat in the early days of the game. Ultimately, after a long discussion, both she and the producers made the decision that it was best for her to leave. Later, Megan revealed the main reason she left the house was because she had PTSD and that the atmosphere in the house was negatively affecting her mental health (according to the Desert Sun).

3 Tyler Crispen (Season 22)

After winning America's favorite houseguest and placing second in season 20, fans had been intrigued at the news that Tyler Crispen was going to be entering the house again for season 22. Since Tyler had already proved to be a strong competitor, key player, and decision-maker in the game, many viewers had been wondering if he would play a key role in the upcoming series. Unexpectedly, compared to the other houseguests, Tyler ended up being one of the worst players in season 22 - ultimately wanting to quit because his heart wasn't in the game anymore.

Although he didn't walk out on the spot, he volunteered to go home. During week five when Bayliegh and Da'Vonne were on the block, he pulled both women aside to let them know that he was going to ask the head of household at the time, Christmas, to use the veto to put him up as the replacement nominee so that the house could send him home. However, since this wasn't best for Christmas's game, the plan never went through in the end. Eventually, Tyler ended up getting evicted in week 9.

2 Paola Aviles (Season 12)

Paola Aviles couldn't make it past the sequester leading into season 12, which is where contestants go to be secluded before the show starts. During this time, house guests are secluded from the outside world while producers have the chance to collect any last details from the houseguests.

Because the Big Brother house doesn't allow any contact without the outside world, the sequester before entering the house is a good indication of whether or not the contestants can handle being alone and secluded. Paola was a contestant who decided to call it quits before even entering the house and playing the game. Unfortunately, viewers never go to know her but it was made public that she was supposed to be on season 12.

1 Brandon French (Season 23)

Some fans might not remember that Big Brother 23 contestant Brandon French, also known as "Frenchie," was another houseguest to voluntarily call it quits. While Frenchie was already the target early on in season 23, he wanted to quit the game before he could get evicted. Frenchie won the first HOH competition and promised safety to a lot of people during the first week, which quickly put a target on his back and set him up to be put up on the block the following week. He told Derek Frazier that he was ready to pack his things and go home and during this conversation, Derek was trying to convince Frenchie not to leave and to "sleep on his decision" because he didn't want to see him leave on his own terms.

Although Frenchie didn't end up leaving the house before the eviction, he was someone who was close to leaving. Ultimately, he ended up being sent home on eviction night when he was on the block. Although his eviction didn't come as a shock to viewers because he was a threat to the house and didn't have the best gameplay, his entertaining personality was hard not to miss after he left the house.
