Marvel's ancient heroes kneel before Thanos in a brand new cover for the upcoming Eternals #7 by Esad Ribic. After recently learning about the significant cost of being continually resurrected over time, the Eternals are left to deal with the repercussions of their actions as the threat of the Mad Titan looms larger than ever. Thanos has killed some of the Eternals, and there are no signs he intends on stopping.
In Kieron Gillen, Esad Ribic, and Matthew Wilson's Eternals run, the creative team has expanded the mythology of the Jack Kirby creations and taken some bold swings in redefining the characters for a new generation. The most daring choice was revealing the great cost of being Eternal. Every time the Great Machine resurrected a fallen Eternal, it actually killed someone on Earth - meaning for thousands of years, the Eternals killed potentially thousands of people without even realizing it. The revelation shocked the Eternals, but the group barely has time to recover from the revelation as Thanos is now free and needs to be stopped before he kills more of them.
In a new preview for Eternals #7 by Gillen spoke to AIPT about what to expect in the next arc of the series. He said the upcoming stories would deal with the recent fallout while dealing with democracy among the Eternals continuing "during a difficult time." Gillen discussed his take on Thanos, calling him an "artist," "poet," and "philosopher," whose every word "you want them to burn." AIPT shared Ribic's new cover for Eternals #7, which features Ikaris, Sersi, and the rest of the Eternals kneeling before Thanos.
The Eternals are in newfound territory, as not only do they have to stop Thanos, but are set to team up with their greatest enemy, the Deviants - who they've battled against for thousands of years. They want to ensure the Great Machine and Uni-Mind don't wipe their memories about the true cost of their resurrection.
Can the Eternals stop Thanos before he continues to slaughter (and potentially rule) them? The group has a real challenge ahead of them. As for the Mad Titan, Gillen hints he might not even be the worst member of his own family, so he'll also have his own personal battles to face. Unfortunately, readers will have to wait until November for the next issue of Eternals. However, given the quality that's gone into the series thus far, Eternals #7 will surely be worth the wait.
