Capcom has revealed that the next collaboration crossover event in Monster Hunter Rise will add an outfit based on Akuma from Street Fighter. Monster Hunter Rise has been adding content based on other Capcom franchises, with the most recent being a Palamute outfit based on Amaterasu from Okami.
The Monster Hunter franchise has had several crossovers with Street Fighter in the past. In Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the player could unlock outfits for their Palico that were based on Blanka and Chun-Li. In Monster Hunter World, the player could unlock armor for their hunter that was based on Ryu and Sakura. The fact that Street Fighter is a Capcom-owned franchise made it a safe bet for a crossover in the Nintendo Switch action RPG, especially as Monster Hunter Rise is going multiplatform in 2022 when it lands on PC.
A new video on the official Monster Hunter YouTube channel has revealed the next Capcom Collab event for Monster Hunter Rise. Hunters around the world will have the chance to unleash the power of the Raging Demon on monsters, as the next event unlocks an outfit based on Akuma from Street Fighter. The Akuma event quest goes live on August 27, 2021.
Not only does the outfit change the player's appearance to match Akuma, but it can give them some of his moves, as well as changing their pose on the Quest Completed screen. Equipping the Akuma layered armor will give the hunter Akuma's voice, while their kunai attacks will change to match Akuma's special moves, allowing the player to perform the Gohadoken and the Zanku Hadoken. If the player equips the Sword & Shield weapon, then their moveset will change to punches and kicks, with standard Monster Hunter Rise Silkbind attacks changing to the Goshoryuken and the Tatsumaki Zankukyaku.
The Akuma and Amaterasu outfits aren't the only crossovers that will be happening in Monster Hunter Rise, as the roadmap for the game confirms that two more Capcom Collabs will be happening in the fall. It wouldn't be surprising to see outfits based on Devil May Cry, as 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of the series. It's unclear if there will be more crossovers in 2022, but if Capcom follows the same model as it has done in previous Monster Hunter games, then Monster Hunter Rise will likely receive a G-Rank DLC update in the future, which will bring a ton of new content into the game, and crossovers will almost certainly be a part of it.
Monster Hunter Rise is available for Nintendo Switch, and it will release for PC in 2022.
