A player of The Sims 4 was shocked after their Sim passed away from laughter as he was told he was about to become a father. The hilariously unfortunate pregnancy announcement was captured on stream by Twitch content creator chelbel, and could be one of the worst cases of bad timing in Sims history.
The Sims franchise has come a long way since the early days of killing Sims by removing pool ladders, with more ways to die introduced across the series. While taking away a pool ladder will no longer kill a Sim in the latest addition to the franchise, Sims can pass away from emotional deaths including "Hysterical Laughter." Hysterical Laughter deaths can happen when a Sim reaches plus-15 from both Happy and Playful moodlets, usually achieved through comedy-based ventures and partaking in too many playful activities. Combining these can push a Sim's mood from Very Playful to Hysterical, which then carries a risk of death as the Sims laughs themselves to the grave. Hysterical Sims can avoid death by talking themselves down from elation using a mirror.
Redditor and streamer chelbell_1 shared a clip of the hilarious failed Sims 4 pregnancy announcement to Reddit, showing just how the unfortunate demise came to be. The video shows chelbel's recently married Sims living in domestic bliss, when one of the Sims discovers she is pregnant. chelbel immediately goes to share the happy news with the father, J Huntington III, who simply walks away before hysterically laughing until he falls to the ground and meets his fate. The post has seen over 2,000 upvotes at the time of writing with other Simmers sharing their disbelief at the terrible timing of the death. chelbel can also be found on Twitch.

A deeper look at the clip reveals that the Sims 4 character was already set to meet the Grim Reaper before his wife could share the happy news. Despite chelbel having already selected the "Share Big News" interaction, the Sim hadn't yet revealed her pregnancy before J Huntington III left the area to meet his demise. As such, it doesn't appear that the video shows a game bug, and instead is more likely to be a mere case of bad timing.
While deaths in the Sims 4 can be dreaded for many, lots of players enjoy the challenge that accidental death can bring. A number of game items have a chance of causing death, such as the Murphy bed, which carries a small risk of killing any Sim using it. Fans of chance death are hoping more items and gameplay mechanics that end in fatality will be added in the future, as previous Sims games have included chance deaths that aren't yet available in The Sims 4.
