Saints Row Already Has Three Expansion Packs Planned

According to on an Epic Games Store listing for the Saints Row reboot's Gold Edition, developer Volition plans to release no less than three post-launch expansions. Volition and publisher Deep Silver unveiled Saints Row during gamescom 2021, showcasing a CG trailer that generated a storm of contention amongst fans.

While some Saints Row faithful seem interested in this reimagined version of the long-running franchise, others argue the aforementioned reveal trailer isn't the least bit indicative of the brand. Much of the criticism, however, appears rooted in the absence of the classic 3rd Street Saints, given that the likes of Pierce, Shaundi, and Johnny Gat are nowhere in sight. But when looking at the series as a whole, it's easy to understand why Volition chose to tread new ground, especially since the last Saints Row adventure literally took place in Hell.

Saints Row's page on the Epic Games Store features a listing for the $90 Gold Edition, which will come packed with the game and an Expansion Pass. Details about the latter remain scarce as of writing, but the posting does note the Expansion Pass will boast "three future game expansions coming post-release." This bit of insight obviously points to Volition having at least three post-launch DLC expansions in the works for the recently announced reboot title. A screenshot of the Epic Games Store listing appears below:

Again, what the Expansion Pass contents may entail is not yet publicly known. And at present, neither Deep Silver nor Volition have offered so much as a hint about when such details may go live. Saints Row's February 2022 due date suggests this information and more is bound to come sooner rather than later, however.

THQ published the original Saints Row, which hit store shelves over 15 years ago in the spring of 2006. The then nascent series, often likened to Grand Theft Auto, received a sequel in 2008, but it was 2013's Saints Row the Third that truly launched the brand into the stratosphere. Volition fully embraced the chaos of sandbox games, even taking things a step forward in terms of gameplay, items, and the over-the-top campaign. It seems that at least some of the IP's trademark mayhem remains intact as far as the upcoming reboot is concerned.
