Loki Will Be Searching For Sylvie In Season 2, Says Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston says Loki will be searching for Sylvie in season 2. Premiering on Disney+ in June, Marvel Studios’ third series was able to bring back a variant of Hiddleston’s Loki after his death in Avengers: Infinity War thanks to Avengers: Endgame’s time travel plot. After his Tesseract-enabled escape, Loki season 1 chronicled the titular trickster’s run-in with the Time Variance Authority, the organization tasked with maintaining the proper flow of time, and introduced its various faces, Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw).

Over its 6-episode run, the series also introduced several more Loki variants, including a Classic Loki portrayed by Richard E. Grant, but it was Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) that he developed a special affinity for. During the season 1 finale, Loki and Sylvie reach the Citadel at the End of Time and come face-to-face with He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a variant of Kang the Conqueror and the true overseer of the TVA. Faced with a choice, Sylvie decides to send Loki back to the TVA headquarters and kill Kang, seemingly unleashing the multiverse. At the HQ, Loki discovers that nothing was like it was before.

After WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki was the first MCU series to be renewed for a second season, as Loki’s return was confirmed in a mid-credits scene during the season 1 finale. Naturally, fans are wondering where the sophomore season could go next and now, Tom Hiddleston has one of the first substantial plot teases for season 2. In an interview with Empire Magazine (via LRM Online), Hiddleston says Loki won’t just be trying to find Sylvie, but he feels responsible for what happened. Read what Hiddleston had to say below:

I don’t think he will stop searching [for Sylvie] now. He feels that this is something he has done, a mistake that he has made, and he’s invested in setting it right.

While Hiddleston says it was Loki who made a mistake, many who watched the season 1 finale likely came away thinking it was Sylvie who made the mistake by killing Kang and risking multiversal war. In fact, it was Loki who tried to stop her and urged her to think things over before making any rash decisions. However, the fact Loki may feel any remorse at all is an indication of his growth over the series, considering the character is notoriously known as a backstabber.

Considering the finale just aired in mid-July, it seems a little early to be teasing next season’s plot already, but Hiddleston previously revealed they are already in deep discussion regarding season 2, which likely includes a basic outline of the plot. The God of Mischief will reportedly appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness next, but it seems he will continue searching for Sylvie well into the second season of Loki, and in due time, they will likely reunite.
