Michael B. Jordan's payday for his recent film, Without Remorse, has been revealed. Based on the 1993 Tom Clancy novel of the same name, the film had been stuck in development hell since the year the book was published, but finally got off the ground in 2018 when Jordan signed on in the lead role, John Kelly. Without Remorse was released on Amazon Prime in April to largely unfavorable reviews from critics for its genericism, although many had good things to say about Jordan's performance.
From director Stefano Sollima, Amazon's action-thriller finds Jordan's John Kelly, a US Navy SEAL, hellbent on exacting revenge against the Russian hitmen who killed his pregnant wife. However, Kelly soon releases he is merely a pawn in a larger conspiracy that could send the US and Russia to war. The film also stars Jodie-Turner Smith, Jamie Bell, and Guy Pearce. While Without Remorse was originally meant to be a franchise starter for Paramount, it's unclear what the plans are now.
Although, a recent report from Variety has revealed just how much Michael B. Jordan was paid for the film. The actor received a solid $15 million paycheck, just a tick under the minimum $20 million that Hollywood's biggest stars are generally expected to receive. Actors who earned figures comparable to Jordan this year include Brad Pitt for Bullet Train, Chris Hemsworth for Thor: Love and Thunder, and Ryan Gosling for The Gray Man.
Jordan's salary is dwarfed by Dwayne Johnson's $50 million fortune which he also received for an Amazon Studios' film, Red One. However, Johnson just recently negotiated that deal with the streamer in June. Jordan, on the other hand, agreed to star in Without Remorse in 2018 when the project was still in development at Paramount Pictures, who then sold the film's distribution rights to Amazon amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, Jordan likely didn't get the full benefit of Without Remore's streaming release, which can often benefit actors in terms of their payout upfront.
Jordan's salary for Without Remorse also pales in comparison to Johnson's because The Rock is, suffice to say, a much bigger draw, although Jordan is certainly no stranger to blockbusters. After breaking through with one of his earliest on-screen roles in The Wire as Wallace, Jordan rode that success onto indie films like Ryan Coogler's Fruitvale Station and continued that collaboration for blockbusters like Creed and Black Panther. Jordan is set to begin a new chapter of his career when he gets behind the camera for the first time for Creed 3.
