PlayStation 5 owners have had several exclusive titles to play since the console launched last year. However, several game developers have had to delay their games out of a 2021 release date - so many of them, in fact, that it sometimes feels like there are no games left for this year. But there are still some great titles to come before December 31.
There have been a number of game delays that have stripped the rest of 2021 of many of its most interesting PS5 titles, including Ghostwire Tokyo and Gran Turismo 7. Just this week at Gamescom, Sony revealed that it was delaying Horizon Forbidden West from its original holiday release window to February 15, 2022.
PlayStation 5 owners could be forgiven for thinking that they won’t have a lot of games to play. However, there are a number of other titles coming, enough that early adopters shouldn't be bored. While most of them aren’t exclusive, several of them show a lot of promise. Given the diversity of the games offered, PS5 owners should be able to find something that will appeal to their tastes.
There is only one game that’s going to be released exclusively on PlayStation 5 before the end of the year: Death Stranding Director’s Cut. More information was revealed about this improved Death Stranding at this week’s Gamescom event, and a release date was given as well: September 24. This version will add new weapons, new transport options, new story content, and more. All of this extra stuff may convince veterans to return to the story of Sam Porter Bridges, but for those who have already played the original Death Stranding and don’t wish to revisit it, the exclusives may not be much of an incentive.
Cross-platform releases, on the other hand, should keep gamers busy. The non-exclusive PlayStation 5 titles that are still, at this moment, set to launch before the end of the year include the following:
- Tormented Souls
- WRC 10
- The Medium
- F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch
- Life is Strange: True Colors
- Lost in Random
- NBA 2K22
- Tales of Arise
- Deathloop
- Aragami 2
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Diablo II: Resurrected
- Lost Judgment
- Away: The Survival Series
- Ghostrunner
- Lemnis Gate
- Insurgency: Sandstorm
- Astria Ascending
- Hot Wheels Unleashed
- FIFA 22
- Exophobia
- Jett: The Far Shore
- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
- Far Cry 6
- Back 4 Blood
- NHL 22
- Disciples Liberation
- Battlefield 2042
- Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Solar Ash
- Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
- Riders Republic
- Just Dance 2022
- Call of Duty Vanguard
- Jurassic World Evolution 2
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Grand Theft Auto Online
- Dying Light 2 Stay Human
- Spellforce 3 Reforged
While PlayStation 5 players will have to make do with a few exclusive titles, these major cross-platform releases should be more than enough to keep them occupied until 2022 arrives.
