X-Men Confirm Marvel's Ten Most Important Alien Empires

Warning! Spoilers ahead for SWORD #6

In the latest issue of Marvel's SWORD, the X-Men have confirmed the biggest and most important alien empires and factions across the galaxy, as they've all come together at the request of the mutant nation of Krakoa and its space defense program. The X-Men have been making great strides into the cosmos, and as such, they've created a proposal that they'd like each of these critical and influential groups to hear. This is fascinating on multiple levels, especially considering the information provided by the issue, such as who's already an ally to the mutant nation and those who are still on the fence.

In SWORD #6 from writer Al Ewing and artist Valerio Schiti, SWORD Director Abigail Brand and her team have invited key representatives to their space station known as The Peak, and there are 10 in total. Orbis Stellaris for the Galactic Rim Collective, Nymbis Sternhoof of Great Kymella, The House of Rigel's Mentacle, Empress Kuga of the Zn'rx Empire, Riitho of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, Paibok representing the newly formed Kree/Skrull Alliance, Smasher of the Shi'ar, Peter Quill's Star-Lord representing the Astrologers of Spartax, Noh-Var speaking for the Utopian Kree splinter movement, and Richard Ryder's Nova Prime as a partial representative for Earth. Altogether, they're confirmed to be the speakers for the greatest civilizations and powers in the Marvel Universe.

Interestingly enough, both the Zn'rx and Shi'ar Empires are already allied to Krakoa, but the mutant nation is looking for some more recognition from the gathered galactic governments going forward. Having recently terraformed Mars to be their own mutant planet they've dubbed Arakko, SWORD wishes for the planet to be considered the capital world of their star system, rather than Earth, which will seemingly always be too disunified to be recognized by the greater galactic powers. Not only that, but they're also offering their newly created metal known as Mysterium in exchange, proposing that it could be used as a source and basis for a new galactic economy. As a result, the end of the issue reveals who agreed to the proposal and who did not, thanks to a report created by Paibok the Power Skrull, and the results are interesting to say the least:

Apart from the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda (which this issue confirms is canonical with the rest of the Marvel Universe), it appears as though every faction has agreed to SWORD's proposal and offering of Mysterium though for different reasons. While Wakanda already has its vibranium, every other empire and group has seemingly agreed either out of some form of necessity or due to preexisting political ties to Krakoa. However, Earth has not created a unified response (though that was entirely expected), and it further exemplifies the need for Arakko to become the capital world for the Sol System instead.

In any case, seeing the most important galactic powers confirmed and gathered by the X-Men is pretty fascinating. When it comes to galactic politics, these are the empires and groups on the front lines. It will be interesting to see what results from SWORD's major initiative as Al Ewing's Age of Space continues with future issues set in the Marvel cosmos. While the recent Empyre and King in Black events wreaked havoc on the galaxy, here's hoping a more unified front among the stars with Krakoa will be able to weather the storm that will come with the imminent Last Annihilation event.
