Terrifying Doctor Who Easter Egg Found In Witcher 3 | Screen Rant

An eagle-eyed player found a terrifying Doctor Who easter egg in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the form of Weeping Angels which follow Geralt when he’s not looking. CD Projekt Red’s large, open-world RPG is filled to the brim with secrets, and even after six years, player exploration is shedding light on long-forgotten references.

The Weeping Angels are an alien race that first appeared in the 2007 episode of Doctor Who, "Blink,"  one that has since become a series favorite among fans. The quantum-locked alien killers, known to some as The Lonely Assassins, take the form of statues, only moving when their victim’s eyes are not on them. Blinking or turning away leaves prey vulnerable and when touched by a Weeping Angel, the victim is sent back in time with no way back. Weeping Angels are also incredibly fast and are able to travel incredible distances in the blink of an eye, which is why The Doctor is famously quick to warn people not to blink when dealing with them. Though Geralt of Rivia is a powerful warrior, it’s likely that Doctor Who's Weeping Angels would be a formidable opponent even for him.

Posted to Reddit's dedicated Witcher subreddit by friendlyjimaz, the Witcher 3 player took note of the Doctor Who reference hiding in plain sight within the game world. Two angel statues are waiting outside a church within the grounds of a cemetery, and when Geralt turns away, the statues move. Doctor Who fans know these creatures as Weeping Angels, but the video doesn’t show Geralt getting sent back in time against his will. The angels do act a bit differently than they do in the show because even as Geralt turns away from the statues, they still seem to stay in place. It’s only after Geralt goes inside the church that the statues move, but they don’t get close enough to Geralt to remain a threat.

After all these years, The Witcher 3 continues to wow players with things CD Projekt Red hid in its world, and the size and scale of areas like Novigrad likely means that more easter eggs are ripe for discovery. The Doctor Who reference, though terrifying, is a fun little nod to one of the pioneers of the sci-fi genre. If the Weeping Angels are present in The Witcher universe, that could perhaps mean a Doctor (and the Tardis) could have in the past or future visit the Continent.

With an upgraded The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt coming to Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC by the end of the year, there will likely be a new wave of players ready to discover the secrets the game has to offer in the very near future. Finding new easter eggs within the game world may be hard after all this time, but that shouldn’t stop players from adventuring into the far reaches of The Witcher 3 and turning over every rock to find them.
