In general, Scrubs is seen as an underrated single-camera comedy from the past couple of decades. It is obviously beloved by its dedicated set of fans but still remains underappreciated. The same can be said for many scenes within the show. Being so full of quality, it is easy for some scenes to either be forgotten about or not be talked about enough.
Everybody talks about the emotional gut punches of "My Screw-Up" and "My Lunch," as well as the hilarity of many Dr. Cox rants, but there are some moments and episodes that, even if they are loved, still do not get the attention they deserve.
10 Reverting To Reality In "My Four Cameras"
"My Four Cameras" is both a spoof of and an homage to the typical, classical sitcoms of yesteryear. The episode is liked well enough, even loved, but perhaps gets lost in a lot of the brilliance the show has to offer.
In pinpointing a particular scene, reverting to reality is the perfect example. When J.D. starts his typical end of lesson monologue, this time in front of the sitcom audience, and when patient Charles James crashes, J.D. realizes something is wrong, and reality kicks in. It is the perfect blend of lightheartedness and harrowing that Scrubs was fantastic at.
9 Cox Inadvertently Revealing His Anger About J.D. Leaving
When J.D. announced he was leaving Sacred Heart for a job at St. Vincent's, it was the end of an era and the catalyst of such an incredible finale for the main series of Scrubs. It also led the characters to have a range of reactions.
Everyone was at some level of being visibly upset, except for the jubilant Dr. Cox. However, Cox accidentally revealed his anger about J.D. to Elliot after degrading her and Denise. There are many fantastic Dr. Cox and J.D. moments, but in terms of the final few episodes, the one spoke about most is Cox's full confession to Sunny. This moment with Elliot is still impactful, and one rarely talked about in the arc of Dr. Cox and his relationships with Elliot and J.D.
8 Dan's Speech To Dr. Cox
J.D.'s brother Dan has one of the more underrated journeys in Scrubs in general, and while his time in the bathtub was great, perhaps his best scene in the show is another underrated one as he scolds Dr. Cox for his treatment of J.D.
Waiting for Cox to go home after leaving J.D., Dan tells Cox about J.D. always being a good kid, going places, and dreaming of being a doctor, a dream Cox has twisted. He warns Dr. Cox and seems to earn Cox's respect for doing so. It is not often Cox is left either speechless or seriously takes on board the words of others, but when he tells J.D. never to forget how much he loves being a doctor, it is touching. It is, of course, bittersweet since J.D. never knows Dan did that for him.
7 Cox & Jordan Jump In The Pool
Sticking with Dr. Cox, while Carla and Turk seem like the typical stable couple of Scrubs, that title actually belongs to Jordan and Perry, and seeing them grow together is pretty fantastic.
Still, it is not too often fans get to see them be genuinely, mutually affectionate, and romantic with one another. In Barbados, though, after fighting, Cox lifts Jordan and jumps in the pool with her, embracing and laughing. Scrubs' time in Barbados may be remembered for Elliot and J.D., Turk's time in the water, Bahama Mamas, and the Janitor's wedding, but this small, touching moment is right up there.
6 Elliot & Turk's Conversation In "My Full Moon"
J.D. and Turk obviously have Scrubs' best friendship by far. Elliot and Turk's friendship, though, is one of the most underrated in the show, with great moments like their handshake eligible for some of the most underappreciated small moments in the show.
Their conversation about their past and future as doctors in "My Full Moon" is up there in terms of their best and most underrated scenes. The pride and clarity in Turk's future as a doctor combined with the doubt surrounding Elliot's time as a physician is so revealing and so in character for the pair. They open up to one another, and it is a wonderful moment of friendship, not needing any J.D. or Cox or any sort of fantasy to be great.
5 Kevin Casey Washes His Hands
It may be unfair to call any of Michael J. Fox's time as Dr. Kevin Casey in Scrubs underrated. Most dedicated fans of the show adore his time on it. However, some moments still arguably do not get talked about enough.
J.D., Turk, and Dr. Cox all get angry at Casey and hunt for him, only for J.D. to find him obsessively washing his hands hours after surgery finishes, it is one of the best and most emotional scenes in the entire series. It is heralded as being great, but when talking about the very best moments, the most powerful, and the best performed, it rarely springs first to mind, and it should.
4 The Ending of "My Princess"
"My Princess" and the whole of Scrubs' season 7 fell victim to the infamous WGA strike, and the future of the show was unknown. This put a lot of pressure on "My Princess," as some believed it was the series' final episode ever.
Due to the fact it is muddled up chronologically and acted, for a time, as the show's final episode, it is not as acclaimed as it perhaps should be overall. In terms of specific scenes, the whole Princess Bride homage is great. But, that moment when Dr. Cox and Jordan sit outside Jack's room and Cox implies the happy ending he told Jack is not what happened, in reality, is poignant, and rarely talked about as one of the saddest patient stories in Scrubs.
3 Kelso Says Goodbye To Ted
For a long time in Scrubs, Bob Kelso is a bit of a one-dimensional antagonist in the show with no real depth. As time went on, glimpses of development formed, and he consistently proved himself to be one of the funniest characters on the show.
Moments of his like the Bahama Mamas, "Who has two thumbs..." gag, and others are always talked about, but one of his most touching comes when he leaves Sacred Heart. He gives a sincere, heartfelt goodbye and thank you to Ted. Kelso was, of course, always awful to Ted, but this was such a lovely moment, and the shock on Ted's face made it all the much better.
2 Mr. McNair Thanks The Janitor
In large part to how utterly hilarious he is for eight seasons, the Janitor has so many iconic moments adored by fans. He even has memorable moments that are more emotional or layered, such as his admission to Elliot after their date.
In "His Story III," fans get perhaps the deepest look into the Janitor's character ever, seeing why he wanted to work in a hospital and seeing him connect with Mr. McNair. The most touching moment in the episode comes when Mr. McNair thanks the Janitor rather than Dr. Cox, but it is a moment rarely spoken about as one of the Janitor's best, often overshadowed by his hilarious stories and improvisations.
1 J.D.'s Relationship Rant
As the main character of Scrubs, J.D. is front and center at so many of the show's best and most fondly remembered scenes. One of his best scenes individually, often left behind when talking about the greatest, is his rant in "My T.C.W."
It truly is one of the very best rants and monologues of the show's history, as well as one of J.D.s best scenes. It is easy to forget the scene for those who are not hardcore, lifelong lovers of the show. But it packs such a punch and should be right up there with the best of Dr. Cox's rants, as well as any other powerful J.D. scene in the show.
