A new video for Jungle Cruise offers a side-by-side look at the production of the film's action sequences. The Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt-led adventure film is based on the iconic Disneyland ride of the same name. The story centers on 20th century riverboat captain Frank as he takes British scientist Dr. Lily Houghton and her brother McGregor on a journey in search of the Tree of Life to help benefit modern medicine. They do this while racing against a competing German expedition, wild animals, and other threats.
Alongside Johnson and Blunt, the cast for the film includes Édgar RamÃrez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti, and Andy Nyman. Development on a movie adaptation of Jungle Cruise has been underway since 2004, with Toy Story's Tom Hanks and Tim Allen signing on to star in 2011, only for Disney to shift gears and redevelop the film with Johnson starring and Bad Santa duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra rewriting the script. After taking a few years to further develop the project and land its all-star cast and director Jaume Collet-Serra, the time is nearly here for the adventure to begin.
In honor of tickets going on sale for the film, Disney has unveiled a new video for Jungle Cruise exploring the development of the action sequences. The new featurette offers a side-by-side comparison of the actual production of the sequences, as well as how they look in the film itself. Check out the exciting new video below:
Since first trying his hand at the action genre with the Liam Neeson-led Unknown a decade ago, Collet-Serra has displayed a solid grasp on big-scale action productions made on mid-level budgets, which makes his first foray into blockbuster filmmaking on Jungle Cruise all the more enticing. The first trailers have certainly pointed towards some exciting set pieces for the jungle-set adventure. The new featurette does an even better job of offering a glimpse at the stunt work done by Johnson and Blunt alongside the stunt team and the efforts taken behind the scenes to deliver some jaw-dropping sequences.
In addition to the pulse-pounding action, the new featurette and trailers for Jungle Cruise have pointed towards Collet-Serra helming a story with a brighter tone akin to the Brendan Fraser-led Mummy series. As the Jungle Cruise ride has been about delivering excitement and joy to guests since it opened over 60 years ago, this feels appropriate. The adventure is set to begin in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access on July 30.
