T-Mobile Magenta Max is the most expensive wireless plan available from the carrier — is it worth it? As with any plan from any wireless provider, that answer varies for each person. For people that only use their phones occasionally throughout the day, going with a cheaper plan makes the most sense. Alternatively, someone that’s on their handset 24/7 may want to go with a more feature-rich option. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all wireless plan. Instead, there's a heap of different options out there that all cater to different types of wants/needs.
In the case of T-Mobile, specifically, there are three plan options available. Essentials is the most basic (and cheapest) offering, Magenta offers a healthy mix of features/prices, and Magenta Max includes the largest feature set of the trio. For a lot of people, Magenta Max can look pretty intimidating. It’s considerably more expensive than any other plan in T-Mobile’s lineup, some of its features can be difficult to understand, and it generally seems like the worst deal compared to T-Mobile’s cheaper options. However, for people that can take advantage of everything Magenta Max has to offer, it’s absolutely worth considering.
Per the T-Mobile website, Magenta Max is available for $85/month for one line of service. That price includes all taxes and fees, meaning customers pay exactly $85 and not a penny more. As additional lines are added, the cheaper Magenta Max becomes. Signing up for two lines of service brings it down to $70/month per line, three lines knock the price down to $57/month per line, and four lines of service will see Magenta Max going for just $50/month per line. While that’s still expensive, it’s measurably cheaper than similar plans from AT&T and Verizon.
For that kind of money, T-Mobile Magenta Max provides the best T-Mobile experience possible. The heart of the plan includes unlimited calling, texting, and 5G/4G LTE data. All of that data is considered ‘Premium Data,’ meaning T-Mobile can’t slow someone’s internet speeds regardless of how much they use their phone — something Essentials and Magenta are both subject to. Magenta Max subscribers are also treated to up to 4K UHD video when streaming via their data connection, in addition to 40GB of ‘high-speed’ mobile hotspot access before being downgraded to 3G speeds.
Do a lot of traveling? T-Mobile Magenta Max has a lot to offer there as well. For any trips to Mexico or Canada, users get unlimited talk, text, and data — the first 5GB being LTE, followed by unlimited 2G speeds. T-Mobile Magenta Max also offers unlimited texting and data (up to 256kbps) across 210+ countries, not to mention unlimited in-flight texting & Wi-Fi on planes with Gogo internet services. Other perks of Magenta Max include a free Netflix subscription (Netflix Basic for 1 line, or Netflix Standard for 2+ lines), free stuff every week with T-Mobile Tuesdays, a Scam Shield Premium subscription for enhanced scam protection, and access to T-Mobile’s ‘team of experts’ customer service team.
With all of that in mind, is T-Mobile Magenta Max worth it? For certain people, yes! If someone uses a lot of mobile data, frequently uses their phone’s hotspot feature, and finds themselves traveling frequently, all of the perks greatly outweigh the added cost of Magenta Max. The Essentials and regular Magenta plans are better picks for people that don’t use their phones quite as heavily, but for the person that does, Magenta Max probably makes the most sense as the T-Mobile plan to sign up for.
