Dead Space Remake Will Include Seamless Gameplay Without Loading Screens

The Dead Space remake will take full advantage of the new consoles to immerse the player in the horror by removing all loading screens and keeping the game as seamless as possible. The remake looks to be taking full advantage of the current-gen tech offered by the Xbox Series X and its rival the PlayStation 5.

At EA Play Live on Thursday, July 22nd, EA announced the Dead Space remake with a small teaser, but it was very light on actual details. That said, it's been confirmed the game is not necessarily a reboot and will reimagine the original while staying faithful to it. Even though, for the most part, the original team is not involved in this remake, the creator, Glen Schofield, has already given the project his blessing, and the developers are relying heavily on the work done by original developer Visceral Games before them.

Since it's been over a decade since the original, EA Motive has the advantage of considerable upgrades in hardware and technology. On top of expanding the story of Dead Space, Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola revealed in an interview with IGN that the game will be a "fully interactive experience, from the start screen to the end credits." There will be no cuts in gameplay for loading screens, according to Campos-Oriola. The extent of this change as it applies to gameplay moments like protagonist Isaac Clarke dying is still unclear.

Either way, the team wants to achieve full immersion and let the upcoming game be played as one long experience, should the player wish to devote the time to beating it in one sitting. It's noteworthy that Campos-Oriola noted that there won't even be a loading state after the start screen, as most modern games that eschew such downtime typically still include one there. The team's commitment to taking advantage of current-gen technology will hopefully allow them to commemorate the original vision of Dead Space's creators while at the same time making a modern horror experience that can stand on its own two feet.

As of right now, there's no concrete release date for Dead Space. Given how little was actually shown at EA Play it may be slated for the second half of 2022 or even later, but hopefully, it will be worth the wait. This remake could possibly define the future of the franchise, depending on how it's received. If it's a success, perhaps fans will see a continuation of the series. If it fails, the Dead Space revival could be over before it's truly begun.
