Company of Heroes 3 has officially been announced with a brand-new cinematic trailer. The next addition to the series is the first new title since 2013's Company of Heroes 2, and it promises to be the biggest, boldest, and deepest in the franchise to date. A lot has changed in gaming over the last eight years, and Company of Heroes 3 looks like it'll be ready to make up for lost time in 2022.
The World War II-set Company of Heroes RTS franchise began in 2006, kicking off a new standard for tactical and strategic war games. Both the first and second games in the series were met with praise from gamers and critics alike, cementing the series as one of the most successful in its genre. While players have had to wait a long time for Company of Heroes 3, the real-time strategy experience is set to be the "ultimate package of action, tactics, and strategy."
Shared as part of IGN's Summer of Gaming 2021, Company of Heroes 3's cinematic announcement trailer highlights what players can expect from the series' biggest title yet. While the reveal doesn't show the game the action, it will utilize the full power of modern PC gaming. A pre-alpha preview is available on PC starting today, July 13, and it will run for three weeks. Unfortunately, a release date has yet to be confirmed for Company of Heroes 3, though the game is targeting a late 2022 release window.
According to Steam, the game will include "new and familiar factions, units, and international Battlegroups," as well as all-new gameplay features. Thanks to the game's Dynamic Campaign Map, the title promises that no two games will ever be the same, providing players with the ultimate tactical strategy experience. Set in the new Mediterranean theatre, players will have to strategize across various types of environments, including mountainous, coastal, and desert areas. Different tactics will be required per location, offering a deeper gameplay experience.
