Boba Fett Can't Escape His Father's Clone Legacy | Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers ahead for War of the Bounty Hunters #2

In the latest issue of Star Wars' comics crossover event War of the Bounty Hunters, it's revealed that Boba Fett might never escape the clone legacy his father Jango left behind. Just as Bo-Katan Kryze identified him as a clone in the second season of The Mandalorian, the bounty hunter is also misidentified as a Republic clone trooper when he goes undercover at Crimson Dawn's auction. Taking place in the days after The Empire Strikes BackFett is determined to get his bounty back (Han Solo) who was stolen from him, wanting to restore his reputation and continue honoring the other legacy Jango left behind: being the galaxy's most legendary bounty hunter.

In the first issue of War of the Bounty Hunters from writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross, it was revealed that Crimson Dawn had stolen Han Solo encased in carbonite from Boba Fett, who's now dead set on getting his bounty back. However, the reborn Dawn has invited several major players from across the galaxy to a gathering where they'll be auctioning off Han Solo himself. Now, Boba Fett will essentially be taking on several foes, though he seems more than prepared to face whatever comes between him and his target.

War of the Bounty Hunters #2 sees Boba Fett taking out Bossk who is after Fett himself, due to the fact that Jabba the Hutt has put a bounty on Fett's own head because of his failure to deliver Solo. In any case, once Bossk is taken care of Boba infiltrates Crimson Dawn's auction by taking off his armor and wearing a cloaked and hooded disguise. He then speaks with Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros to coerce their help in causing a distraction for him, though Aphra seems to recognize his voice.

Interestingly, Boba seems irked that Aphra has pegged him as a clone, and his denial about being a trooper speaks volumes of his own perceptions of his own self and identity. In addition to the considerable fee he was paid for the Kaminoans' use of his genetic template to create the Republic's clone armies, Jango Fett requested an unaltered clone for himself, Boba, whom he raised as his own son. While being Jang0's true son is the identity Boba has understandably and rightfully chosen, it doesn't change the fact and without his iconic armor, he does look and sound exactly like a clone trooper from the days of the Republic and the Clone Wars.

It seems clear that the misidentification of Boba as just another clone trooper has followed him his whole life (though he did use it to his advantage during the Clone Wars to try and get vengeance on his father's killer Jedi Master Mace Windu). All that being said, it's evident that what truly sets Boba apart and makes him unique is his actions, and he's continually proven that he's more than capable as the galaxy's most legendary bounty hunter just like his father was. As such, it seems as though Boba Fett is about to prove himself yet again by reclaiming Han Solo in future issues of War of the Bounty Hunters.
