Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Jaden's 10 Most-Used Trap Cards | ScreenRant

Jaden Yuki becomes known in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX for his unique Elemental Hero deck. The deck focuses on strong effect and fusion monsters as well as multiple spell cards that allow Jaden to perform fusion summons or strengthen Elemental Heroes.

However, Jaden's deck also includes numerous trap cards, with some of them being classic choices that are included in most Yu-Gi-Oh! decks, while others being structured around the Elemental Hero archetype and allow for some unique effects. Due to this deck, Jaden manages to shine in Yu-Gi-Oh: GX, especially in the first season.

10 Mirror Force

One of the most well-known trap cards and one of Yugi's favorites, Mirror Force is commonly seen in Jaden's deck. When an opponent's Monster attacks, Mirror Force allows the user to destroy all attack-position monsters that the opponent controls.

Due to this effect, it is obvious why Mirror Force has been one of the best cards that can fit in every deck regardless of archetype. As seen in episode five of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Jaden has two copies of it in his hand.

9 A Hero Emerges

Another trap card that is often played by Jaden is A Hero Emerges. Whenever an opponent's monster attacks, it allows the user to randomly select one card from their hand, and, if it is a monster card, to special summon it on the field. If it isn't a monster card, then they have to send it to the graveyard.

It is a very useful card, especially for Jaden's deck, which includes more monsters than spells and traps. Due to that, the odds of summoning a monster are higher.

8 Hero Signal

One of the best combo cards in Jaden's deck is Hero Signal. It allows him to special summon one level-four or lower Elemental Hero from his hand or deck whenever a monster he controls gets destroyed

Not only does it allow Jaden to cycle faster through his deck, but it also gives him the chance to special summon a monster of his choice that he can then use for a fusion summon. Plus, since it is summoned after the opponent attacks, it is probably going to stay alive until the next round.

7 Negate Attack

Another classic card that cannot miss from almost any deck is Negate Attack. As one of the best defensive cards, Negate Attack does exactly as its name suggests; it negates the attack of the opponent's monster and on top of that ends the battle phase.

As a great tool to stall the opponent and set up his play, Jaden uses this card multiple times throughout the series, from the first episodes to the final ones.

6 Hero Barrier

Hero Barrier is a similar but weaker version of Negate Attack. It allows the user to negate the attack of one monster that the opponent controls if they control an Elemental Hero monster. It is weaker compared to Negate Attack since it requires an Elemental hero monster face-up on the field and it also negates the attack of only one monster, not all of them. However, since Jaden almost always has an Elemental Hero on board, this card is used often.

5 Draining Shield

Draining Shield is simply an improved version of Hero Barrier that sees some use primarily throughout season one of the series.

Draining Shield negates one attack from an opponent's monster and increases the user's life point by the number of attack points of the attacking monster. A common strategy is to use this card when the strongest of the opponent's monsters attack in order to increase the total life points restored.

4 Mirror Gate

Mirror Gate is another card that is used when an opponent's monster performs an attack and targets one of the user's monsters. When the card is activated, the two monsters switch battle positions from attack to defense, and vice versa, and then the damage calculation occurs.

It is a great strategy since most monsters that are placed in attack positions have a significantly weaker defense, and thus it allows Jaden to easily alter the outcome of a battle.

3 Edge Hammer

Edge Hammer is a normal trap card that allows the user to tribute one Elemental Hero Bladerge, destroy one monster on the opponent's side of the field, and deal damage to the opponent equal to the destroyed monster's attack.

Since Elemental Hero Bladerge is one of Jaden's most used monster cards, Edge Hammer is a solid option that is often used to give Jaden the edge or even to deal lethal damage and win the duel outright.

2 Hero Spirit

Hero Spirit is a trap card that activates when a monster with Elemental Hero in its' name gets destroyed during the battle phase. By activating Hero Spirit, the user selects one monster on the opponent's side of the field and negates all battle damage dealt by it during this turn.

It is a great option for stalling the game slightly, and it gives Jaden the chance to set up his combos in the next turn. Also, it is easy to activate since almost all of Jaden's monsters have Elemental Hero in their names.

1 Hero Ring

Hero Ring is an equip spell card that can be equipped only to warrior-type monsters with 1500 attack or less. It makes the equipped monster unforgettable by any monsters controlled by the opponent that has 1900 attack or more.

Hero Ring is ideal for Jaden's deck since all Elemental Hero monsters have the warrior type. Further to that, it allows Jaden to keep his monster alive for an extra turn or two in order to set up for a fusion summon.
