Wolverine Leads a New Canadian Team in Marvel's Heroes Reborn

Potential spoilers for Heroes Reborn: Weapon X and Final Flight #1 ahead!

Wolverine is leading a new team of Canadian freedom fighters in the world of Heroes Reborn. Readers can meet the new team in a special preview for Heroes Reborn: Weapon X and Final Flight, on sale in print and digital June 16th.

Heroes Reborn has shown fans a darker, grimmer take on the Marvel Universe. It is a world without the Avengers, and the Squadron Supreme is America’s premiere superhero team. As the event has unfolded, it is becoming clear that the Squadron is highly nationalistic, using their powers to enforce the will of President Phil Coulson and America on the world. Entire nations have suffered at the hands of the Squadron, and Canada was hit maybe the hardest, and readers can see the aftermath in a new preview for Heroes Reborn: Weapon X and Final Flight from Ed Brisson, Roland Boschi, and Chris O'Halloran.

Readers learn that in this dark world, the Squadron Supreme led an army into Canada to annex Alberta and British Columbia, and when the rest of the country fought back, the Squadron razed it, leaving Canada a desolate wasteland called “the Great White Nothing.” Readers learn that Wolverine, here called “Weapon X,” leads a team of freedom fighters who oppose the Squadron. The team, who is the Heroes Reborn version of Alpha Flight, has engaged with the Squadron, and using claws enchanted by Shaman, the team’s sorcerer, Weapon X was able to land a death blow on Hyperion. Enraged over the death of their comrade, the Squadron prepares to strike back at the Canadians, but Shaman once again saves the day and teleports Alpha Flight away from harm. Most of the preview is told in flashback, and as it ends, readers learn that Alpha Flight’s actions may have serious and grave consequences in the present day.

As the world of Heroes Reborn continues to unfold, the various creative teams are painting a picture that continually grows darker. Readers have learned of the existence of the Squadron Savage, a team of brainwashed black ops soldiers who handle missions too dirty for other heroes, and now fans learn that the Squadron Supreme is not above invading a country and destroying it, all in America’s name. Canada has little left, but Wolverine and a repurposed Alpha Flight are going to make sure that justice is served on the Squadron Supreme. Wolverine’s fellow mutants have also suffered at the Squadron’s hands, and his burning desire for revenge makes him the perfect leader for this new team of guerilla soldiers.

In the world of Heroes Reborn, Wolverine is leading Alpha Flight, now a team of underground resistance fighters, against the brutal and nationalistic Squadron Supreme.
