Sons Of Anarchy: 5 Times We Felt Bad For Tig (& 5 Times We Hated Him)

Sons Of Anarchy has a lot of fantastic characters who bring complex personalities to the show, but few are greater than Tig Trager. At times he can be seen as a loose cannon, someone who is happy to kill on command without a second thought. Yet, there are other times when he showcases his softer side, with Tig truly wearing his heart on his sleeve.

As is the case for all the members of SAMCRO, Tig gets put through the wringer during the show, going through moments where he makes poor decisions, or when he suffers at the hands of others. This is why he elicits such a wide range of emotions from the fans viewing the show, who can go from loving him one moment to absolutely hating him the next.

10 Felt Bad: Handing In His Sgt. At Arms Patch

Tig is Clay's right-hand man throughout the first few seasons of the show, but he begins to question what is actually happening with Clay's relationship with Gemma. The two start to develop tension and it becomes clear that they're no longer seeing eye to eye.

Once he realizes that Clay has beat up Gemma, it's obvious he loses all respect for him. However, Tig is stuck, as he can't attack the president of the group, so instead, he hands over the patch that made him the Sgt. At Arms, in a moment where he makes the right call.

9 Hated Him: Murdering Pope's Daughter

While Pope is clearly a villain with who SAMCRO has a serious rivalry with, his daughter is someone who doesn't do anything wrong. However, despite the fact that she's innocent, Tig takes it upon himself to mow her down with his car.

She has no warning or preparation, as she just sits having a drink outside when Tig drives off the road and kills her. Seeing an innocent person killed is something that nobody wants to see, hence why fans didn't like the decision that he made.

8 Felt Bad: Looking Out For Gemma

Gemma and Tig always had a great connection, so when the two of them end up kissing, it seems like a natural step for them. Both Gemma and Tig are extremely lonely, but he makes the decision to back out, respecting his friendship with Clay, and he actually then helps them by telling him to spend more time with Gemma.

It's a moment where Tig's loneliness really shines through, and it's clear he is longing for something else in his life. While he's normally quite happy just being a member of SAMCRO, this is a time when he obviously wants more.

7 Hated Him: Burning Off The Tattoo

While this situation wasn't just Tig's doing, it was a moment when audiences questioned all of the group. When Kyle makes a return, the group finds out he still has the SOA tattoo on his back, which leads to them burning it off.

Tig is the man responsible, blowtorching his back, which is obviously unimaginably painful and cruel. While the club has set rules that they all agree to when they become a member, this situation was one that audiences didn't enjoy seeing.

6 Felt Bad: Trying To Sacrifice Himself

Tig's unintentional role in Donna's death is something that weighed heavily on Tig throughout the early seasons of the show. So when he was given the opportunity to redeem that action with his own life, Tig happily volunteered when Pope wanted somebody dead.

In the end, Opie takes the brutal beating, but it's hard not to feel sorry for Tig in this situation. He is full of emotion and desperate to put things right for what he did, but Opie won't allow it to happen.

5 Hated Him: Not Voting In Kozik

Kozik is somebody who everyone else in the group likes, respects, and trusts, but because he has a longstanding rivalry with Tig, he never gets sworn in. Tig refuses to accept him and doesn't allow Kozik to become part of the group officially.

It's something a lot of people don't like because Kozik is a character that most fans liked, mainly because he clearly is willing to do whatever it takes for his fellow members, but Tig is the reason he doesn't ever stay long term.

4 Felt Bad: Thinking He Will Die

Tig is at the heart of the rivalry with Pope and his men, often making mistakes that put him at the central focus of the issues. This led to him being taken into a warehouse where he expects to die, but really, Jax has a major plan to take down Pope and save him.

In the end, Tig gets to finally take revenge and kill Pope himself, but it is an emotional situation for him. He breaks down when realizing he used Clay's gun and that the situation is over, and when he lets out a huge cry, it's impossible not to feel bad for how he has been living up to that point.

3 Hated Him: Almost Killing A Woman

During the first season, Tig almost breaks one of the clear club rules, which is to never kill a woman. It's something that Jax is very clear about and when he arrives just in time to stop him from doing it, the tension is easy to feel.

He, Happy, and Chibs had tied up the female ATF agent and Tig seemingly has no problem in preparing to shoot her in the head. It's a moment where it becomes clear that he will do literally anything as he is so full of rage, but it's a low point and one that made audiences dislike him.

2 Felt Bad: Watching His Daughter Die

Tig makes a lot of mistakes throughout the series, and killing Pope's daughter is definitely one of those. However, the aftermath of that action creates one of the most emotional scenes in the entire series when Pope gets revenge by killing Tig's daughter.

However, to make matters worse, Pope forces Tig to watch the ordeal. He made the death as brutal as possible as well, as he burnt her alive. Seeing how much it hurt him left audiences feeling sympathetic towards him.

1 Hated Him: Killing Donna

Tig's main role in the group early on is primarily to work almost as a hitman, taking down whatever enemies the group had. But murdering Opie's wife Donna is something that nobody can forgive him for. While it is an accident, Tig believing Opie is the one driving the car, that doesn't undo what he does.

Fans absolutely hated Tig at this moment, as he murdered an innocent woman who didn't do anything wrong. Tig was emotionally distraught by the situation, but that didn't make it any better, which is why audiences hated him.
