Warning: SPOILERS for Lucifer season 5.
Lucifer is primarily about Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) but over the course of the series, many of the other archangels of Heaven have been introduced, including some who debuted in Lucifer season 5, Part 2. The second half of Lucifer season 5 saw God (Dennis Haysbert) retire and leave the universe, which prompted Lucifer and his villainous twin brother Michael to vie for the promotion to become the new God. The other archangels were then forced to choose between Michael and Lucifer and even go to war with each other.
Angels are incredibly powerful celestial beings born to God and his wife, the Goddess (Tricia Helfer), in the Beginning. The archangels are part of the Heavenly host and possess many supernatural abilities, including great strength, wings to fly, and immortality. Although angels are meant to live forever, they can also be killed by certain weapons like the Flaming Sword. Some of the oldest and more powerful archangels also possess a unique special ability like Amenadiel's (D.B. Woodside) power to slow time or Lucifer's persuasion to unlock someone's deepest desires. Despite their divinity, many of the archangels, unfortunately, consider themselves as superior beings and look down upon humanity because they're jealous of all of the attention humans receive from God.
Now that Lucifer has become God at the end of season 5, what the future holds for the Devil's numerous brothers and sisters isn't clear. Here is every archangel introduced in Lucifer so far and what each celestial being can do.
Samael changed his name to the cooler-sounding Lucifer Morningstar ("The Light Bringer") and he is one of the most powerful of the archangels. As the ruler of Hell, Lucifer can turn into his Devil form, which horrifies mortals. Lucifer also has the unique ability to draw out people's hidden desires, which the Devil calls his "mojo". At the end of Lucifer season 5, Lucifer has become God but it's unclear yet whether the Devil's promotion has granted him the same omnipotence and omniscience as his Heavenly Father.
Amenadiel is God's firstborn angel, his greatest warrior, and represents His fury and righteousness. One of Amenadiel's duties over the millennia was to return Lucifer to Hell whenever the Devil would venture to Earth. Unbeknownst to Lucifer, his older brother was also tasked by God to bless Chloe Decker's (Lauren German) parents so that they'd give birth to her as God's gift to Lucifer. Amenadiel used to look down on humanity but is now enamored with them. He is the father of Charlie, a half-human/half-angel who he raises with Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris). Amenadiel also has the unique ability to slow time and he even completely stopped time in Lucifer season 5, episode 8. Of all of the archangels, Amenadiel is closest to Lucifer, whom he calls "Lucy".
Michael (originally pronounced Mike-ah-el) is Lucifer's identical twin brother and the main villain of season 5. Michael always envied his more charismatic twin and he even self-actualized the perpetual chip on his shoulder into a limp right arm. It was Michael who talked Lucifer into rebelling against God, and he was incensed when it resulted in their father casting Lucifer into Hell to rule as his own kingdom. In Lucifer season 5, Michael briefly impersonated his twin to ruin Lucifer's life as a prelude to his long game where he planned to usurp their father as the new God, which involved Michael coaxing his father that He was losing his powers so that God came to Earth. Instead, Lucifer became God and cut off Michael's wings as punishment. The Devil also permanently scarred Michael's face to prevent further impersonations.
Uriel (Michael Imperioli) was the Welcomer of Souls to Heaven and one of God's messengers. He was also one of the villains of Lucifer season 2 who threatened the life of Chloe Decker because Lucifer allowed their mother, the Goddess, to remain on Earth after she escaped Hell. Uriel had the unique power to foresee patterns but he didn't anticipate Lucifer stabbing him with Azrael's blade, which killed the archangel.
Azrael (Charlene Yi) is the Angel of Death, one of the most powerful of the Heavenly hosts. She carries Azrael's blade, which is the main component of the Flaming Sword and can eradicate anyone killed by it. Azrael befriended Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) as a child and convinced Ella that she was her imaginary ghost friend named Ray-Ray. Azrael became the motivating factor for Miss Lopez moving to Los Angeles and joining the LAPD as a forensic scientist. Azrael returned in Lucifer's season 5 finale to take Chloe Decker, although the Devil sacrificed himself in Heaven to resurrect Chloe, which led to Lucifer becoming God.
Remiel (Vinessa Vidotto) was one of Lucifer and Amenadiel's younger siblings, and she was a fierce and formidable hunter. Along with her hunter's intuition, Remiel can also sense the presence of celestial beings and she came to Earth to bring Amenadiel's baby son Charlie to Heaven, which led to a fight between the two. In Lucifer season 5, Remiel backed Lucifer's claim as God and agreed to spy on Michael. When she was discovered, Michael murdered Remiel.
Mentioned several times throughout the series and introduced in Lucifer season 5, part 2, Gabriel (Kimia Bepoornia) is God's messenger who Amenadiel derisively called "the Angel of Gossip". Gabriel does usually have all the "hot goss" that she spreads to her siblings. Gabriel took Michael's side in his campaign to become God and she smuggled the Flaming Sword from the Goddess' dimension after she delivered Lucifer's message what reunited God and the Goddess. Gabriel also fought for Michael in the angels' conflict but she bowed down to Lucifer when the Devil became God.
Zadkiel (Josh Rush) is the Angel of Righteousness and he carries a staff made from the Tree of Life. Introduced in Lucifer season 5, part 2, Zadkiel despises Lucifer for rebelling against God but he found himself impressed when the Devil confessed he wanted to become God so that he would be worthy of Chloe Decker's love. Zadkiel originally sided with Michael but turned and aligned himself with Lucifer. Although most of the other angels didn't follow suit, Lucifer gave Zadkiel an "A+ for effort".
Saraqael (or "Sara") was introduced in Lucifer season 5, part 2 as one of the angels whose vote the Devil courted when he campaigned to become God. Saraqael was one of the angels who sided with Lucifer in his rebellion and she complained that she has suffered from God's "passive-aggressive wrath" ever since. Lucifer tried to curry Saraqael's favor by introducing her to Top Chef winner Michael Voltaggio and arranging perks with him, but she changed her mind and sided with Michael.
Introduced in Lucifer season 5, part 2, Jophiel (Miles Burris) is one of the "swing vote angels" who Lucifer courted when he campaigned to become God. Although he's a party animal and an idiot who only met with Lucifer to get some of his top-shelf booze, Jophiel claims that he was tight with the Devil for Millennia and he still laughs about the time Lucifer "de-pantsed Napoleon". Nevertheless, Jophiel sided with Michael before bowing to Lucifer as the new God.
Ibriel (David Buglione) is one of the archangels who immediately sided with Michael for God. Ibriel served as Michael's henchman and believes that human beings "don't matter". But like the rest of his bretheren, Ibriel ended up bowing to Lucifer as the new God.
Raziel (Kellina Rutherford) sided with Michael and worked as his henchwoman but she was conflicted at the violence she was asked to perpetrate as well as Michael's disdain for humanity and their other angelic siblings. Raziel joined Zadkiel in turning on Michael and siding with Lucifer, but she changed her mind again. Regardless, she bowed before Lucifer as the new God.
Raphael was mentioned after Lucifer returned to Hell and he was proud of the Devil that he has grown as a person.
Castiel is another angel who Amenadiel once said has a lovely singing voice and who sings all the time in the Silver City, although he can sometimes annoy the other residents of Heaven.
Hanjobadiel was called "the most handsome" of the angels at God's retirement cookout, although Lucifer assumed at first that they were referring to him.
There are also many other unidentified angels in Lucifer season 5 who were present at God's retirement party and later fought alongside Michael at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
