In honor of the 25th anniversary of Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore, Adidas has collaborated with Extra Butter to release an apparel collection to honor the film. Happy Gilmore, despite turning 25, continues to air on several networks due to the popularity it has cultivated from fans over years of watching the film again and again. In addition to the apparel release, rumors have surfaced of a possible sequel, but Sandler claims a Happy Gilmore sequel hasn't been discussed.
The film tells the story of Happy, a man who wants nothing more than to play hockey, only to discover his slap shot gives him a powerful drive on the golf course. To raise money for his grandmother's home, Happy joins the golf circuit and quickly rises through the ranks. His quick rise is questioned and despised by many, including professional golfer Shooter McGavin, portrayed by Christopher McDonald, who actively works to get Happy out of the tour. Happy Gilmore is one of Sandler's strongest films, with scenes such as his fight with The Price is Right host and Shooter claiming to eat "turds for breakfast" continuing to leave audiences bursting with laughter.
Adidas and Extra Butter partnered with one another to develop an apparel collection in honor of the 25th anniversary of the popular film. Michael Ehrlich, a global brand marketing executive, uploaded images of the collection onto Twitter, which feature gloves, khakis, a hat and a bright yellow jacket all adorn with the finger guns. This is, of course, a nod to McGavin, who frequently "shoots them" after sinking a shot. The entire collection is worn by McDonald himself, with his image also being featured inside the left shoe. The collection is perfect for anyone who likes to golf, is obsessed with the film, or both. Fans of the sport continue to draw parallels between it and Sandler's film, including Sandler, who cheered on a caddie at the Masters who appeared to be the spitting image of a caddie used in his film. The collection further cements the impact the film had on the sport, as well as giving fans a reason to bust out the nine iron and take a swing themselves.
The special Happy Gilmore collection is set to drop on June 25th on extrabutter.com. The collection also includes some visor hats, jackets, and shorts, as well as polos with Happy and Chubbs Peterson. Any fans of the films, or frequent patrons of the green, should be able to find something they love. As fans of Happy Gilmore continue to share the things about the film they love in new platforms, such as a Happy Gilmore Easter egg featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it won't be long until this Sandler masterpiece has found space in every niche market. Unlike Barker when he teamed with Happy, the price is not wrong here.
