Amy Pond and Rory Williams were the companions and in-laws of The Eleventh Doctor. They were fiery, flirtatious, funny, and flawed. They saw the universe and saved civilizations. But all who travel with The Doctor come to know the perils of their adventures.
That constant danger, sacrifice, abduction, death, and grief, are just as prevalent as the wonder and beauty. The Eleventh Doctor came to be reliant on Amy and Rory to guide him, to stabilize his whims and actions. All the pain they experienced, they shared.
10 Amy Forgot Rory
All her life, Amy had been followed by the crack in her bedroom wall. And it followed The Doctor, Amy, and Rory all through time and space. When Rory pushed The Doctor out of the way and was shot by a Silurian named Restac, he died.
But it was when the time energy from the crack in time touched him that he was truly gone; erased from existence. Every memory of Rory vanished from Amy's mind and her own personal timeline was affected.
9 Rory Was Constantly Dying
During his travels with The Doctor, Rory died many times. He was attacked by Eknodines and turned to ashes in The Dreams Lord's dream state. He was killed by a Silurian and erased from existence by the crack in time.
He drowned and cursed with the black spot. Amy saw him dead in the House infiltrated TARDIS's mind games. He jumped off a building to escape the Weeping Angles. And he died with finality when he was sent to the past, his name engraved on his headstone.
8 Amy Sacrificed Her Relationship With Rory
In "The Asylum of The Daleks," the Daleks abducted Amy and Rory to be The Doctor's companions. During their time together, The Doctor noted a tension between Amy and Rory.
The Doctor used their life-endangering circumstances to bond them together and work through their communication issues. It was here that fans discovered Amy had sacrificed her relationship with Rory for his happiness.
She gave him up because he had always wanted kids "ever since [he was] a kid," and she had found out that she couldn't have any. Rory didn't know that this was the real reason they split up and had only filed for divorce because he thought she had stopped loving him. Fortunately, the two reconciled in the end after talking through their issues.
7 Their Daughter Was Abducted
River Song's convoluted timeline meant that her relationships were confusing. It was eventually revealed that she was Melody Pond, Rory and Amy's daughter. Amy was abducted during her pregnancy and she and Rory were never able to see their child grow up. Melody was taken by Madame Kovarian moments after her birth.
Amy never knew that she had gone to school with Melody, or that she named her daughter after her best friend, who was really her daughter. And when the time came to say goodbye at the graveyard, River couldn't take her eyes off the Angel to say goodbye to her mother.
6 They Were Taken By The Angels
When the time came for Amy and Rory to leave, it was a painful separation. The Doctor knows that no companion stays with him forever. They can't. But when a companion dies or leaves because of circumstances The Doctor can't control, it's especially difficult.
Amy and Rory tried to evade the Weeping Angels, they tried to run. But in an emotionally heart-wrenching turn of events, Amy followed her husband to the past, to the unknown.
5 Amy's Life Was Changed By The Crack In Time
When The Doctor crashed into a young Amelia Pond's garden, he was unaware of the interesting circumstances surrounding her. "Did you come about the crack in my wall?" The Doctor tells Amelia that the crack in the wall is "everywhere. And everything. It’s a split in the skin of the world. Two parts of space and time that should never have touched." Because of the crack, Amy's parents were erased from existence and erased from her mind.
4 Rory Almost Killed Amy
Amy and Rory have experienced many traumatic moments together and death seemed to follow them through time. When Rory was erased from time by the crack in the wall, there was enough residue for the Alliance to create an Auton Rory.
This Auton Rory tried to resist his destructive programming but ended up shooting Amy. In emotional distress and guided by The Doctor, Amy was placed inside the Pandorica. Auton Rory stood guard outside the Pandorica for two thousand years, ensuring Amy's safety.
3 Rory Had To Choose Between Two Amys
Traveling with The Doctor is risking the unknown. When an adventure to Apalapucia doesn't go as planned, Amy becomes trapped in a quarantine kindness timestream. When Amy begins to rapidly age in comparison to The Doctor and Rory, a terrible choice must be made. Rory is forced to decide between saving the version of his wife who has been stranded for over three decades, or the younger version who has only been gone a short while.
2 Amy Was Abducted And No One Realized
Amy Pond was abducted during her pregnancy and replaced by a Ganger version of herself. This version of Amy was undetected by the real Amy, Rory, The Doctor, and River Song. Amy was unaware that instead of traveling around time and space, she was being held captive by Madame Kovarian. Amy woke up in her real location after the Ganger version of herself was discovered and destroyed by The Doctor.
1 Amy's Final Request To The Doctor
After Amy and Rory were taken by the Angels, they said a final farewell through the afterword of River Song's novel. It was the only way they could. In their words to The Doctor, Amy assured him that she and Rory were happy and that they loved him. She told him not to be alone. Amy also had one final request for her dear friend, a request that he give a little girl waiting in a garden the gift of hope. She told him to tell her the story of Amelia Pond.
