The Conjuring 3 Image Shows Ed & Lorraine Warren In A Prayer Circle

A brand new image from The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It has arrived, showcasing Ed and Lorraine Warren in a prayer circle. The third installment in the highly successful paranormal horror franchise is only a matter of weeks away from its official release, and everything that’s been seen of the film to date suggests more big scares.

The last time that audiences had a chance to see Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, was 2016. The Conjuring 2 was a satisfying follow up to 2013’s The Conjuring, and although both films focus on haunted dwellings, The Conjuring 3 is set to explore new territory. Back in 1981, Arne Johnson became the first person in American history to use possession by the devil as a legal defense in a murder case. Johnson was accused of murdering his landlord, but he was convinced that he wasn’t in control of his actions, having recently attended the attempted exorcism of a friend’s child. The case became known as the Devil Made Me Do It case, and The Conjuring 3 is set to explore it in a way that only The Conjuring franchise can.

So far the images, clips and trailers that have been seen of The Conjuring 3 have offered consistent proof that not only are the Warrens contained to a single house this time, but also that the new film won’t have any shortage of scares. The latest image to arrive ahead of the film’s June 4th release date continues in that tradition. Fandango provides the new glimpse of The Conjuring 3 in its 2021 Summer Movie Preview, with the image showing the Warrens engaged in prayer with two unidentified characters. See the image below:

Given that the third Conjuring is set to take on demonic entities in a way never seen before in the franchise, it’s perhaps fitting that a new director has replaced James Wan. Both Conjuring films have been Wan’s, but Michael Chaves was hired for The Conjuring 3. Chaves has limited experience as a feature film director, with only The Curse of La Llorona to his credit prior to being hired for The Conjuring 3. However, for those who might feel wary about an outsider with limited experience taking on a very established and popular franchise, it’s worth remembering that Wan is onboard as a producer. In other words, the director may have changed, but it’s highly likely that Wan is still committed to a certain vision for the franchise.

While The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It marks a new direction of sorts for the series, everything that’s been seen so far of the upcoming film feels very much like its predecessors. The wait to see the film has been a long one, and at this point, Conjuring fans are incredibly eager to see what this third entry has to offer. The concept of demonic possession isn’t exactly a new one when it comes to horror films, but hopefully The Conjuring 3’s twist on the subject will make the new film stand above the others.
