Sailor Moon Movie: Netflix Release Date, Cast & Story Details

Sailor Moon Crystal is about to invade the summer with the double feature of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie hitting Netflix as one of its 2021 summer movies. While the fourth season didn't happen like the previous seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal, the creative team ended up doing it as a two-part film that released in theaters in Japan earlier this year. However, fans outside of Japan have had to wait for quite some time for the next installment of the Sailor Moon reboot.

But the next adventure of the beloved Sailor Guardians is about to be shown to the rest of the world through Netflix. As the global streaming service has released the trailer for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie, here's everything you need to know about the Sailor Moon Crystal two-parter.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie is officially hitting Netflix all across the world on Thursday, June 3. While it was initially marketed as part 1 and part 2, like the Japanese theatrical release model where they came out on two separate dates, Netflix is combining it into a double-sized feature film. This will be the first time the Sailor Moon property has ever been on the massive platform, as Sailor Moon Crystal and the original anime have up to now been streaming on Hulu.

While the original Japanese version will be available, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie will also be dubbed in multiple languages. Cast members from the original Sailor Moon series, when re-dubbed through Viz Media Dub in 2014 have also carried over to the American dubbed version of Sailor Moon Crystal. They are all back as the Inner and Outer Guardians for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie.

The trailer introduces the Crystal iterations of the villainous Queen Nehelenia, voiced by Laura Post. But that's not all as the Dead Moon Circus is part of the story, featuring Sailor Ceres (Cassandra Lee Morris), Sailor Pallas (Xanthe Huynh), Sailor Juno (Ericka Ishii), and Sailor Vesta (Erica Lindbeck.) But an ally who will also be getting his Sailor Moon Crystal treatment is Helios, a.k.a. Pegasus, whose English voice actor has yet to be revealed.

For fans of the original Sailor Moon show, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie is an adaptation of the Dream storyline that occurred in the manga. The Dream arc served as the main premise of Sailor Moon SuperS, which was the fourth season of the '90s anime. Netflix describes the film taking place in April during the century's total solar eclipse, but the peaceful period gets cut short when the Dead Moon Circus comes to Tokyo. They seek to possess the Legendary Silver Crystal (as usual with most Sailor Moon villains) while also invading Earth with Lemures, which are evil nightmare-driven beings.

But as the new villains become the Sailor Guardians' latest threat, Usagi and Chibi-Usa meet Pegasus who is looking for a chosen Maiden who can finally break the Golden Crystal's seal. While this movie acts as Sailor Moon Crystal's fourth season, it also seems to be setting something up for a potential follow-up, given Usagi's Eternal transformation. That is from the Stars arc in the manga, which served as the storyline of Sailor Moon's fifth and final season in 1996-1997.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie part 1 and part 2 will hit Netflix on June 3.
