New Money Heist Image Confirms Season 5 Has Wrapped Filming

Warning: Contains spoilers for Money Heist season 4

A new photo confirms that Netflix's Money Heist has wrapped filming on season 5. The Spanish crime drama was created by Álex Pina under the title, La casa de papel (in English, "The Paper House"), as a two-part limited series on the Spanish television channel, Antenna 3. The series grew in popularity after Netflix Spain picked it up in 2017 and re-edited the episodes. The streaming service released an English-language dub of the series soon after, along with a documentary chronicling the show's production.

The show follows the unfolding of two major bank heists orchestrated by a mysterious criminal mastermind known as the Professor (Álvaro Morte). Silene Oliveira (Úrsula Corberó), the series' main character, is an amateur thief living under the law who joins the heist team when the Professor notices her potential after she bungles a heist of her own. The members of the team adopt codenames based on major global cities; Silene goes by the name "Tokyo." The show's drama stems from the Professor's complex plans, which involve specific injunctions against his employees engaging in personal relationships or violating certain moral principles. After the team robs the Royal Mint in parts 1 and 2 of the original series, Netflix's parts 3 and 4 chronicle a heist on the Bank of Spain that remains unfinished at the start of part/season 5.

On Friday, Netflix confirmed on Twitter that Money Heist has officially wrapped season 5 filming with an image from the set. All cast members are pictured in their red jumpsuits, save for Morte. The streaming service revealed in July of last year that Money Heist season 5 will be the show's last with a trailer release that included the accompanying message, "The heist comes to an end." As production comes to a close, Netflix has now tweeted this farewell to fans. Check out the tweet and set photo below:

Back in July, Pina said that season 5 will "break up the band," "put the Professor on the ropes," and put characters in "irreversible situations." Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Sense8) and Patrick Criado will join the cast for the show's final season. Jesús Colmenar and Cristina López Ferraz join Pina as executive producers with Colmenar, Koldo Serra and Álex Rodrigo directing. Itziar Ituño (Raquel/Lisbon), Pedro Alonso (Andrés/Berlin), Miguel Herrán (Aníbal/Rio), Alba Flores (Ágata/Nairobi), and Jaime Lorente (Ricardo/Denver) star alongside Morte and Corberó.

Money Heist season 4 concludes with a win for the team as they manage to free Lisbon from jail and sneak her into the Bank of Spain to join up with the rest of the heist crew. They're well-positioned to complete the heist at this point, but the plan remains more elaborate and difficult to pull off than their first. Where the Royal Mint robbery consisted of printing money only, the Bank of Spain heist involves making off with vast quantities of real, solid gold. The formerly anonymous group has also become both a public enemy in the eyes of the government and a national symbol of anti-capitalism and resistance to the system, making it harder for them to fly under the radar. It's almost certain that some or many team members will not make it out of the heist alive, but who will survive, and whether the heist is pulled off, remain to be seen.
