Emily Blunt Says A Quiet Place Trilogy Is Planned | Screen Rant

A Quiet Place star, Emily Blunt, reveals that the first two films are part of a planned trilogy. The original post-apocalyptic horror movie premiered in 2018 to widespread critical acclaim. Viewers praised the nuanced world-building and narrative subversion of conventional horror tropes within the film. It was a blockbuster hit for Paramount that maintained a steady hold at the box office for weeks. Actor John Krasinski, who both starred in and directed the movie, began working on a sequel soon after its sizable domestic and international success.

The first installment of A Quiet Place follows a family that has survived the sudden invasion of sightless aliens who scavenge and kill at the slightest sound. Forced to confront a ravaged world, the Abbotts spend their days trying to make as little noise as possible. During this time, they attempt to work through an underlying emotional tension that has alienated their familial bonds, particularly between the young daughter, Regan (Millicent Simmonds), and her father Lee (John Krasinski). Near the end of the film, the Abbotts discover a new way to defeat the blind monsters, although it comes at a great and devastating cost. The sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, takes place immediately after the events of the first film and tracks the family as they try to find other human survivors.

While speaking to Collider, Blunt shared details about A Quiet Place Part II and her love for the franchise. She also described Krasinski’s future plans to turn the films into a trilogy. Read what Blunt said below:

He has a whole arc of ideas that could work. I think he just wanted to see how people responded to this one before he fully engaged his brain on the third one. But he has a couple of great ideas.

Notably, the sequel film initially premiered in March 2020, but its national distribution was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the rest of the year, its release was pushed back multiple times before Paramount settled on a May 2021 debut. Early reviews of A Quiet Place Part II are overwhelmingly positive, which many critics note is an affirmative sign that a third film to round out the planned trilogy will likely be greenlit.

Considering the ending of A Quiet Place, which left off on a tantalizing cliffhanger, the upcoming sequel is a long-awaited next chapter to the film. The 2018 horror movie invested in a subtle and ominous story that, ultimately, paid off in narrative dividends. Its thoughtful, carefully-paced arc balanced character development with an unusual premise for survival predicated on silence. The film's growing sense of unease and dread contributed to the unnerving aesthetic and its commitment to fully-realized protagonists made the losses and triumphs that much more worthwhile. It will be intriguing to see what, exactly, happens next to the Abbott family in A Quiet Place Part II.
