Diggle's Arrowverse Return Addresses Arrow Series Green Lantern Tease

David Ramsey confirms John Diggle's Arrowverse return will address the Green Lantern tease from the Arrow series finale. Ramsey was a series regular on Arrow from the very beginning, playing Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) loyal confidant and bodyguard. When the show came to an end in early 2020, Diggle's story received a tantalizing conclusion. While traveling to Metropolis with his family, Diggle encountered a glowing green box. Fans immediately assumed this had something to do with Green Lantern, but the powers that be have remained mum on the question since the finale aired.

However, there will be some answers coming soon. Ramsey is set to return to the Arrowverse in a big way within the current season. He will once again play Diggle for episodes of Superman & Lois, Supergirl, The Flash, and Batwoman. Additionally, Ramsey will portray a mystery character on an installment of Legends of Tomorrow. His upcoming return has fueled speculation that Arrow's Green Lantern tease will finally yield some results. And it sounds like it will, though it might not be in the way audiences are expecting.

While talking to EW about this week's Superman & Lois, which he directed, Ramsey shared some new details about Diggle's latest Arrowverse stint. When he first arrives, he hasn't yet accepted the mantle of whatever was in the box; in fact, he refused it. However, that does not mean the story first teased in the Arrow finale is over. Ramsey said:

"He was on his way to Metropolis and was intercepted by a glowing green box. Whatever was in that box, he refused its invitation. There are consequences for that. This is the very preliminary story of telling what those consequences are.

"We find John Diggle as a co-leader in ARGUS with his wife. He's going to Gotham, Smallville, and National City as an ARUGS leader. That's his day job. But he's hearing voices; he has debilitating headaches. And he's hiding them from the other members of the Arrowverse shows, who he's helping as an ARGUS member. So he's coming there with a purpose, but he's also hiding something. The more we tell the story, the more we begin to hear what these voices are, particularly on The Flash."

Ramsey's added comment that his appearance in The Flash season 7 will especially provide some answers to Diggle's plight follows a tease provided by showrunner Eric Wallace, who confirmed Team Flash will help Diggle. Some might be disappointed to learn Diggle hasn't turned into a fully formed Green Lantern when he first reenters the Arrowverse, but Ramsey has said his alter ego is wary of otherworldly things. As a result, it's going to take some time before Diggle is ready to suit up - if a Green Lantern is indeed what he could become.

As Diggle has yet to reappear onscreen, fans will have to brace themselves for a longer wait when it comes to answers about the Green Lantern tease. After all this speculation, it will be disappointing if the Arrowverse opts to take Diggle's discovery in a different direction. Still, fans shouldn't give up hope just yet. Diggle's post-Arrow story has only just begun. His visits to additional Arrowverse shows can help guide him in his journey, and by the time he's finished his string of episodes, he just might be Green Lantern.
