The full trailer for the upcoming half-hour dark comedy series, Physical, is now here, following the release of the teaser just last month. The show was created by Annie Weisman, and it stars Emmy and Golden Globe nominee, Rose Byrne, in the lead role. The plot follows Byrne's Sheila Rubin as she struggles with her demanding husband and raising her family in 1980s San Diego. Through it all, Sheila struggles quietly with her own demons until she discovers the empowering nature of aerobics.
The trailer, released by Apple TV+, transports audiences to the past with the synth sounds of the '80s as it introduces the world to Sheila's everyday struggles. She desperately tries to carve out a space for herself with little help from her husband. As she forgets her child and forgoes healthy eating for fast food, it looks as though the burden she carries is pushing her to the edge. As the breaking point nears, she finds hope in an unlikely place. Check out the trailer below:
Physical is slated to premiere on June 18th with a 10-episode season. Craig Gillespie, who previously directed I, Tonya, and Disney's new live-action Cruella, is credited with directing all ten episodes alongside fellow directors, Liza Johnson and Stephanie Laing. The look and feel of the show are reminiscent of Netflix's GLOW, minus the wrestling, as it brings a humorous tone to a similar time. While aerobics as seen in the Physical trailer has largely been taken over by newer trends like yoga, the human struggle of finding yourself through mind and body exercises is one that audiences can still connect with as the show is set to explore overarching themes that still ring true with overworked mothers even today. Physical looks ready to deliver a solid dose of laughs and tears when it hits AppleTV+ later this summer.
