Supergirl Season 6 Star Katie McGrath Teases Hopes For Lena's Ending

As CW's Supergirl draws to a close, Katie McGrath, who portrays Lena Luthor, reveals her hopes for Lena's destiny. Leading life with a name tied to Lex Luthor (portrayed by Jon Cryer), Lena is no stranger to being misunderstood, which has often led her to doubting herself and questioning whether she can truly be good. So it's no surprise that McGrath's wish for Lena is not necessarily one including fame and riches.

Supergirl has recently entered its sixth and final season, as the Super Friends continue their battle with Lex's determination to rule the world along with other menacing forces. McGrath stars alongside Melissa Benoist in the titular role, David Harewood, Chyler Leigh, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines and Azie Tesfai. Fans of the show have many desires for Lena's fate, mainly revolving around a romance between her and our girl of steel, Kara. While McGrath couldn't confirm any specific plot points, her hopes for Lena are very simple.

In conversation with EW, McGrath stated that, as the curtain falls, she wants Lena to finally be content in herself and find some self-love. Lena has certainly fought against her dark side in the past and suffered the mental repercussions, but McGrath thinks it's time for Lena to finally find some peace of mind and forgive her past mistakes. McGrath stated:

I really would like to see Lena come into full acceptance of who she is, that she's fully accepted who she is, what she's done, and who she is now... She's not hung up about the bad parts of her, and she's fully accepted the woman that she is, warts and all, and she believes that she is a good person. For me, that would be such a lovely wrapping up for Lena because she struggled so much with who she is. To finally just take a deep breath and go, 'I'm enough, Lena is enough,' and be happy for it.

McGrath goes on to express her delight regarding the show being completed as the showrunners envisioned it as opposed to meeting the fate of many other shows and being cancelled at an unfinished point. And while she doesn't confirm if her dreams for Lena will manifest, she is certain on all parties being satisfied with the definite finale. McGrath explained further:

So when the show does finish, we have the privilege of being able to tell the ending. Our showrunners are amazing, and our writers are brilliant, and the idea that they've come up with, you will get an ending.

Although all the Supergirl characters have faced their own demons, it is arguable that Lena's have been the most hungry as she was bred from evil and has to continuously prove her virtue to those who can't accept it, including herself. So it's safe to say that, while fans may be holding high expectations for Lena's future, all will be happy if Lena is granted the gift of self-acceptance.
