Marvel’s New Alien Xenomorph Alpha Has Just Been Unleashed

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Alien #2

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Alien, a new breed of Xenomorph known as an Alpha may have just been unleashed upon the world. Even after the events of the first and second Alien films, the corporation known as Weyland-Yutani seems determined to never learn from its mistakes in Marvel's new series, especially with the reveal that it has an entire Xenomorph research lab secretly in orbit above Earth. Now, anti-corporation terrorists have broken into this classified station, and the end result could prove to be disastrous.

In the previous issue of Alien, readers were introduced to the former WY security officer known as Gabe Cruz, who has just retired after a dedicated career of service. However, he's also the sole survivor of a deadly Xenomorph attack, one which featured this new breed of the lethal alien species dubbed the Alpha, capable of immense chaos and destruction, and possibly carrying the ability to coordinate the efforts of the standard Xenomorphs. Now, Alien #2 from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Salvador Larroca sees Gabe's son Danny, who is part of this terrorist organization, break into Epsilon Station having stolen his father's credentials. However, he and his fellow terrorists get much more than they bargained for, and they inadvertently set loose several live specimens that have been in containment.

Meanwhile, Gabe has been approached by one of Weyland-Yutani's corporate heads, who lets him now about the situation and his son's involvement. Naturally, Gabe is desperate to save his son, and WY is prepared to give him that chance after having already lost men of its own. However, the company is also insistent that the only way Gabe and his son won't be imprisoned once they get back is if Gabe can also secure the Xenomorph Alpha embryo aboard the station. However, that proves to be much more difficult as Gabe and a squad of officers discover once they get up to the station themselves.

While there's still a chance that someone might have run off with the specimen, it's more than likely that the Alpha has been set loose to grow and wreak all sorts of chaos and death. Additionally, Gabe still hasn't found Danny, leaving his team short on options as to what to do next, despite finding some survivors. Furthermore, the issue ends with one of the officers getting mauled by a fully grown Xenomorph in an extremely brutal fashion.

Clearly, things do not look good for Gabe and his efforts to find his son, not to mention the fact that if the Alpha embryo has broken free and found a means to grow, the entire planet below could be in grave danger. However, while Weyland-Yutani has protocols to destroy the station (and all the evidence of its activities), it's doubtful that it would actually do the right thing and destroy it, considering how much the company values the embryo and all the other specimens contained within the secret lab. In any case, here's hoping Gabe and his son are able to survive this new Xenomorph encounter as Alien continues from Marvel Comics.
