L.A. Comic-Con will officially occur in December 2021. While the L.A. Comic-Con is relatively green compared to the New York Comic-Con and San Diego Comic-Con, it quickly became a thriving convention along with the others. The first-ever L.A. Comic-Con was held in 2011 and has run every consecutive year up until 2019. The convention was initially scheduled to be held in 2020 but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has now been over one year since the last L.A. Comic-Con.
The L.A. Times confirmed that L.A. Comic-Con will be held in December as an in-person event. In typical fashion, L.A. Comic-Con will run for three days from December 3 to December 5. The event will be held in its usual home at the Los Angeles Convention Center. After Comic-Con was canceled in 2020, it was projected that the convention would be able to run again in September 2021. However, after watching how the first quarter of 2021 developed, Chris DeMoulin, the chief executive of L.A. Comic Con’s parent company, Comikaze Entertainment, determined that it would be best to push the event back to December, saying:
Now that we’ve seen how 2021 is playing out, we’ve concluded that the new December dates feel the most accessible for the largest number of fans. By that point in the year, more people will likely feel safe attending an in-person event, and we also wanted to insure that our dates wouldn’t interfere with people’s holiday plans.
The December convention will be predominantly in-person. However, there will be some virtual components to the convention. Those who wish to stick to streaming will still be able to participate in live panels and talent meet-and-greets and have virtual access to all mainstage and secondary panels. The convention has already listed some of its big headliners including Zachary Levi (Shazam!), Tom Welling (Smallville, Lucifer), Frank Miller (Sin City, Daredevil), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob Squarepants) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian). Now that official dates have been settled on, tickets will sell quickly. Tickets can be bought on the Comic-Con site, and all tickets purchased for September 2021 can be transferred to the new December dates.
