Elder Scrolls Online Loot Boxes Can Finally Be Opened For Free

The Endeavors system is coming to Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), bringing daily and weekly tasks for players to complete that give them access to in-game loot boxes. The update is part of Update 30 and launching mid-June, arriving alongside the Blackwood DLC. The update adds Endeavors, a free addition to the ESO base game available for all players regardless of where they access the game or how long they’ve played. By completing Endeavors, players will earn Seals of Endeavor (along with regular rewards like gold and experience) that can be spent to acquire any available Crown Crate items.

Previously, items locked away in Crown Crates could only be acquired by spending real money to purchase crowns. Like other loot boxes, Crown Crates contain a randomized selection of items that range in value. The Crown Crates could contain consumables like potions or XP scrolls or permanent items like pets, cosmetics, or extremely rare Radiant Apex mounts. With the addition of the Endeavors system, players no longer have to spend money in the game to unlock certain exclusive items.

Revealed in a post by Elder Scrolls Online, the Endeavors system will arrive in two months, bringing a new category of tasks for players to complete. Each day (and week) players will receive Endeavors that grant various rewards upon completion. When players log in, they will automatically receive the tasks, which can vary across the different play styles and in-game activities.

Players may have to pickpocket items, complete quests, sell items to vendors, craft items, defeat unique monsters, or any other random task the game assigns. The amount of Endeavors players can complete each day or week will vary, so players are encouraged to check what the cap currently is and decide accordingly what Endeavors to take on. The new way to earn Crown Crates eliminates the necessity for microtransactions, giving players a free way to earn exclusive items in Elder Scrolls Online.

Players can see their tasks in the Endeavors menu within the Activity Finder, but they don’t need to be accepted. Instead, all Endeavors are active upon login and once players complete one, they automatically receive their Seals of Endeavor. The Seal value for individual Crown Crates items differs, so players may have to save up depending on what they are most interested in. The Seals of Endeavor are saved forever and can be used by any of the characters in a player's account.

The update could be a result of Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Softworks, eliminating the need to spend more money in Elder Scrolls Online, especially for those playing on Xbox Game Pass. The system is a welcomed addition and works towards eliminating the plague of microtransactions in beloved video games.
