Tarantulas are in season once again in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and one player has managed to catch three of them at once through some incredible luck. Tarantulas and scorpions are among the most dangerous critters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and their appearances alternate in between certain months.
Tarantulas and scorpions are some of the few bugs that chase the player when they try to catch them. Wasps can also chase players once they're shaken out of a tree, and if the player gets caught they get stung. If the player gets stung a second time, they get knocked out and respawn at their house. Similarly, if a player gets stung by a tarantula, they also get knocked out. The key to catching them is to slowly walk towards them and to reach catching distance before swinging the net.
While on a mystery island tour, user Hoosier_Homegrown had a stroke of luck dropped upon them when catching tarantulas. As soon as the player catches their first tarantula, another immediately starts chasing after them, but the placement of the rock stops it from knocking them out, so in the end, they are able to catch a second and a third tarantula in a row thanks to the obstacle. The rock placement of this mystery island is also what contributed to this miracle, proving that luck can win the day.
Farming tarantulas and scorpions on mystery island tours is a good way to make a ton of bells. When the game first launched last year, tarantula farming was one of the best methods given how easily they could be found, but the appearance rate of tarantulas and scorpions has been nerfed since launch. Still, finding a tarantula island is a good way to make tons of bells or make lots of tarantula models. Alternatively, tarantula islands can also be made from scratch by taking away all other bug spawn points on an island such as flowers and tress to ensure tarantulas are some of the only bugs that can appear on an island.
Finding a tarantula island is lucky enough given how rare they are, but being able to catch three of them in a row like this is another level of luck entirely. It shows how useful rocks can be in the game with just the right luck and timing. While in practice this would require very specific circumstances to be consistently repeated, the potential is massive in allowing for all sorts of creative ways to use rocks to assist the player. In the end, the tarantula is no match for the mighty rock in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
